I think an argument could be made for a few guys like Glen Dorsey, Shaq, Ben Mcdonald, or hell maybe even LF7 after this year. But I think I gotta go with Pistol Pete. What are your thoughts?

ETA: I guess TECHNICALLY, I did't limit the options to players, so Skip has to be in the conversation now.

Across all sports? What are you using to define greatness? Are you considering non-athletic achievements?

Billy Cannon, because of the first national title and the Heisman. Hopefully to be eclipsed this year by Fournette.

Relative to the timeline, yes. However, in the late '60's and early 70's, Maravich was the hottest and coolest dude in the world of college basketball. He was a first round draft pick of both the NBA and ABA and featured on the covers of every sports rag in the land. He packed every venue he played in, both college and pro. In the real-time info world of today, Pete would have been the mega-star of mega stars. I rate the top 10 all-time Tigers as;
Cannon
Maravich
Casanova
Oneal
Petit
Kevin Faulk
Todd Walker
Ben McDonald
Chris Jackson
Glenn Dorsey

It's likely that Fournette would be in that list somewhere after this season.

Hard to argue with that list, but we'd need to make a place for Mathieu. Sorry, but the guy just needs to be on any list of the all-time greats. He single-handedly changed so many games with ridiculous plays. Over and over again.

Depends what we're talking about. Career at LSU, notoriety, philanthropy...the answer could change.
For me, I'm most proud to say Pistol & Shaq were/are Tigers. I'm surprised many outside of LA don't know Shaq went there so it's always cool info to drop.
As far as I've seen with my own eyes at LSU, Mathieu and Fournette are the best. Obviously a long way to go in their careers but either of those two could end up #1 in the end. Just about any football fan knows those names and likes them. Another season like last year plus maybe a Heisman and/or NC puts Fournette squarely on the LSU sports Mt Rushmore

How is this even a question? Which of the 3 major sport venues are named after a player?

If Leonard leads us to a title this year though he gets my vote.

Some days, I think it's Cannon. Others, I think it's Casanova. And yet on others, it is Shaq.

But, Pistol Pete is as good an answer as any.

Pete Maravich averaged 44.2 points a game without a three point line. If there was a three point shot in that era he would have averaged in the mid 50's a game. Nobody is close.

If Pete Maravich was in his prime in the NBA RIGHT NOW, with social media and the way people are.....

the internet might explode and the world might stop turning.

Greatest talent of any Tiger ever in any sport.
