Slight hijack - when did LSU stop having a freshman team? When were freshmen allowed to play?

Probably the mid-to-late 70s, but I'm not 100% certain.

I know they were granted eligibility in 1972, but I clearly remember references to the freshman team when I was a very young Tiger fan, in the mid-70s.

It's applicable WRT career stats.

The joke used to be "Q: Why was Tommy Casanova a three time All American? A: Because he did not play as a freshman."

but Faulk be considered a better RB than either Casanova or Cannon?

I thought Casanova played defense and returned punts?

He did that, too. What can I tell you? He was a man among boys.

You have to compare by the era. Era 1. Cannon. (the sport was not as atheletic as it has become for obvious reasons).
Era 2. Alexander. (teams didnt throw much then and defenses were unsofisticated). Era 3. Faulk ( most versatile tiger ever. Tops in the sec in all purpose yds). None of the others compare althoughni loved dalton hilliard. People who say Hester must be under 30.

Addai?

During his tenure with the Louisiana State University Tigers, he ranked fifth all-time in rushing, with 2,577 yards, despite being primarily used as a blocking fullback early in his career. He wore two numbers while at LSU, 41 in his early years and then number 10 in his final years.

Dude you probably weren't even born when Cannon won the Heisman. You're right; it's not even close.

Pure talent and ability? Probably Cecil Collins.

Best? Either Hilliard or Faulk.

Hope that in a couple more years I have to specify which Hilliard.

If you ask Harvey Williams, the answer will be "Harvey Williams!"

If you ask me, the answer is "Charles Alexander."

If you ask Cholly Mac, the answer is "Charles Alexandria."

I would say that Jim Taylor and Steve Van Buren both had better careers - both are enshrined at Canton...

Productivity: Charles Alexander, Dalton Hilliard, Billy Cannon, Kevin Faulk, Brad Davis

Hype and Recognition: Billy Cannon, Jimmy Taylor, Terry Robiskie, Garry James, Harvey Williams, Steve Van Buren

Speed: Billy Cannon, Sammy Martin, Harvey Williams, Garry James

Legend: Doc Fenton, Abe Mickal, Billy Cannon, Cecil Collins

So, I guess - Billy Cannon
