I still think he's a good coach.
I'll go on record- in 2005, I wanted Fisher promoted.
I was happy as hell when I thought we'd get Petrino.
I didn't know shite about Miles and it scared me.
Before the "HAVE A GREAT DAY" speech, I said promote Pelini.
When Malveto was failing, I said to hire Chavis. I still stand by that move until crappy defense becomes the norm.

Why didn't Chip win a NC while at Oregon?

I would contend Oregon had at least an equivalent chance in the PAC 12 as LSU in the SEC.....

No, it would be hard for anyone USC/Stanford/Oregon to win a NC because they would have to beat the best coming out of the SEC. Playing thru the SEC schedule and the Pac 12 schedule is two completely different paths to prepare for the NC.

Gary Patterson is at a turd of a program compared to LSU. They didn't have a sellout for 24 years before he got there and the largest crowd ever in TCU history is just over 50,000 people. He's also had to deal with several conference changes and that's not easy (unless you have a Johnny Football). I don't think people grow up wanting to play for TCU.

Still, the guy has had 11 winning seasons out of 12 and won 7 bowl games (including the Rose against Wisconsin and finishing undefeated). They'll probably have a losing season this year, but they still hung in there with us and were within 3 points late in the 4th.

Patterson got TCU as many wins in their first year in the Big 12 as Les got in his last year with Oklahoma State...and Les didn't have a winning record in his first year in that conference (he did in his 2nd though). I wouldn't say anyone is superior to anyone, but Patterson ain't working with much and has done very well over there. Just say it out loud - Texas Christian University - does it sound like a place that you would want to go play football at?

Back in 2010, I wanted either Patterson, Jim Harbaugh, or Kevin Sumlin, and I'd still take any of the 3 over Miles.

I know Patterson is struggling in the Big XII, and I didn't like some of his comments before the opener (I'm willing to look beyond that stuff because I think most of us can admit to getting caught up in life and saying things we regret. Heck, in most cases, I prefer a bit of a loose cannon over someone that is overly guarded and calculated with everything they say. Although, from a strategical standpoint, I do like Miles' secrecy.), but the man has done some incredible things at TCU, and he's still got a better overall record than Miles as a college coach.

I'm not trying to be negative here, but I'm just not a Miles guy. For all intents and purposes, he lost me in 2009. However, I do see the obvious, ostensible absurdity in getting rid of a coach with a near 80% winning percentage and a BCS Championship. For me, it's just more nuanced than pure numbers.

This situation reminds me of Nolan Richardson at Arkansas. I always admired him, and really liked his approach to basketball, especially the pressure defense he ran. I remember actually being angry when Arkansas fired him, and thinking that the Hogs were ungrateful to a great coach who brought them a national championship. There were other controversial issues surrounding Nolan's firing, but from a results angle, maybe I'm being hypocritical a decade later, but when I consider all the variables, I'd take Patterson.

He has more talent than most teams he plays. WTF are you talking about? Again only 2 schools in the big 12 have had higher rated classes for the past 5 cycles. UT and OU. TCU is on the same level of talent as osu and texas tech and has more talent than the rest of the big 12.

but in mid season, speculation was miles to michigan. i said to promote pelini. yes, he prob wouldve been a miss. Petrino wouldve kicked arse here. shitty guy/good coach. ive always liked fisher. of course, "he loses games he shouldnt". wow, it would suck to have a coach that did that. can you imagine losing to less talented teams?

the Rant would bitch constantly about his attitude towards defense and recruiting

Petrino was a horrible recruiter. And did not give one shite about defense.

Since we are dreaming, John Gruden would be the ultimate. Would love to see him bring his attitude and coaching ability. Would be awesome.

TCU's teams have ranked at around 6th out of 10 teams in the Big 12 in recruiting over the last five years (even though they just entered the league last year). I stand by everything I said and the other stuff I said was accurate because they were facts. Patterson has busted his butt to accomplish what he has accomplished. He still has a young team and playing in a new league is a challenge. This is his weakest team in years and they were still within a FG of us in the 4th quarter. It is what it is. Like I said, I'm not saying he's superior to anyone, but let's not act like he sucks.

If we truly are dreaming, I'd pick Urban Meyer.

But yeah, Petersen and Patterson would be good. So would Kirby Smart.

I say if Les says he is going to Mich. to get a bigger raise, let him.
