Who advises LSU's athletic dept on the PR front? They should be fired.

One misstep after another in the public eye when LSU hasn't actually done anything wrong.

Now this is being reported as LSU refusing to play Florida?

Is this for real?

Does LSU know what public relations is and is for? It isn't just so you can spend 3 years putting together a half decent "Love Purple Live Gold" commercial to air during football games on TV. It is also for things like this. Or Miles being potentially fired last year or when he was fired this year.

Get out ahead of a story and forget everyone else.

We are constantly caught flat footed. Just pure incompetence on the PR front over and over again.

There is a way for them not to look bad. This is a colossal frick up. Colossal.

We not only look like shite. We also are virtually eliminated from the Sec Championship game.

Are only option is to say we understand, and will play on 11/19

Otherwise we look petty in the face of people dying

Factually incorrect. LSU offered to fly Florida to Baton Rouge. It's stupid to try to play in Gainesville. Florida declined to move the game, thus anything after that offer does not count as LSU cancelling.

Who is dying in the US?

Because some people died in Haiti we are supposed to stop everything?

News flash!:

People die in 3rd world shitholes every day and no one bats an eye. That's garbage logic.

Look - we didn't kill anyone, nor did we cause this hurricane. I feel bad for people, but these Florida officials and the SEC should not get a free pass to place the blame for this fiasco on LSU.

You're an idiot.

Cancelling a scheduled game with millions in losses isn't being "petty". Pull your head out of your arse and STFU.

Come on dude. LSU bent over backwards here and are 100% right for not shuffling the 11/19 game.

People are dying.

And that same storm is headed toward the US. Until it dies out, no one knows if US citizens will die

But LSU looks evil if they try to say "We don't give a damn if people are dying, we want to play games"

Not a good look. AT ALL

Yes, but OP is still dead on. LSU is constantly letting others control the narrative. Alleva should have been out front giving daily press conferences, calling out Florida and the SEC publicly if need be.

I'm glad you asked.

First I would fully understand the goals and interests of both.

For Florida, best case scenario is the game gets canceled and they don't have to play a game as banged up as they are. Worst case scenario is they have to play the game in Baton Rouge.

For LSU, best case scenario is they play the game in Baton Rouge. Worst case scenario is the game is postponed and the only chance to play would be on a date that LSU has to cancel a home game and travel to Gainesville. Anything in between that is better....even the game getting canceled.

If you are Joe Alleva you have to recognize this. As soon as I saw Florida was stalling, I'm doing two things:

1.) I talk to the media about the plans for the team. Recognize the situation and we are monitoring it closely Willing to work with the UF administration to do whats best for our players and theirs. We've been through this before and are happy to help.

2.) I'm leaking to the media the exact tweet that came out today. LSU is willing to play in Gainesville or Baton Rouge any day this weekend. If Baton Rouge then we will help out with hotels and travel. But to do this, we need to know by Wednesday COB.

You are effectively creating the narrative and the context. By issuing the deadline, you are limiting Florida's options as well.

Instead, we wait and wait and wait. In the meantime, Florida not only gets their best case scenario, they also leak to the media that they are willing to play on November 19th. Therefore creating the context that LSU could effectively be eliminating themselves from the SEC title even if they win out, by not playing this game.

Bottom line, he didn't look out for LSU again. He just assumed that the SEC and Florida would do the right thing. They didn't. Florida actually has an AD that cares solely about Florida and could give two fricks about LSU and doing the right thing.

The SEC is either incompetent or corrupt but regardless, they have no problem fricking LSU again and again.

I honestly couldn't care less. Tell FLA if they want to play on 11/19 they can come here and we're keeping the gate. I could give two shits what the media says.

I once thought LSU's marketing and PR bottomed out with "welcome to the now, Evo Devo".

In retrospect, those commercials were the pinnacle of LSU's public image.

The SEC is somewhat of a brotherhood in this respect. They all make so much money they kind of have each others' backs.

With that said, I would have put out the following statement on Tuesday.

"We've been in touch with Florida and the SEC to let them know that the LSU facilities will be ready should a change of venue be necessary. Given future scheduling considerations and the importance of this game with respect to the final standings of each division, playing this game at the scheduled time is the only feasible option. We've asked Florida and the SEC to continue to monitor the track of the Hurricane and to make a final decision on venue by 10PM Wednesday night."
