If he could have maintained his freshman offensive production, we would probably consider him clearly the best player ever to wear the purple and gold. Unfortunately he didn't maintain that level and his poor showing in the CWS make him "only" one of the many greats.

Defensively, the best shortstop at LSU, you simply will not find a guy that stepped up making those kinds of defensive plays (besides Nola) that early. I think Nola was great, but bregman is slightly better defensively,

This is dumb. I honestly have no clue what he batted as a freshman, but this is dumb

it's hard to put any player above Todd Walker. HE is def in the same level as Todd Walker but IDK if better.

Bregman is better defensively. Walker was way better offensively. I have never seen a better clutch hitter at LSU.

Bregman career fielding percentage = .959

Austin Nola career fielding percentage = .963 including his senior year in which he only had 5 errors.

Bregman may be flashier on defense, but Nola was the model of consistency and had incredible range.

to be fair to Bregman, he improved his defense quite a bit since his freshman year and fielding percentage isn't a great indicator of how good a fielder he is

I love Aaron Hill, but I don't think he is better than Bregs.

Russ Johnson and Aaron Hill were both better.

they also had the benefit of playing in a different era of offensive baseball. and i don't think either are as good defensively as bregman. but since we're adding other guys to the discussion, jason williams should be mentioned as well. also have to include Larson, regardless if he ws only here for 1 year,

Austin Nola has him beat defensively.

meh, that's debatable. Bregman has more range, athleticism, and a much better arm. Nola was great, but Bregman is more skilled IMO. You also have to remember Bregman played catcher until he came to college.

Not really. He was playing catcher his senior year because the pro scouts are hung up on him not being a shortstop. But that was his only year behind the plate.

he played catcher his junior and senior years of high school. regardless, he's a better shortstop defensively than Nola. Nola didn't make errors but he also did not have the ability to make some of the plays Bregman has and does with regularity
