When's the last time a LSU pitcher was also in the hitting lineup?

I'm watching the Louisville game and the idea came to mind when I saw their pitcher Brendan McKay hitting as well. None come to mind recently.

this is the correct answer for the last time an LSU pitcher hit. However, Chad Jones is the right answer as a hitting.

Skip, Smoke and PM never recruited those guys; or at least, they sorted things out to focus on whatever they were better- pitcher or batter.

Tulane had a few back in the day.

Since college plays by the AL (DH) rule, it makes sense not to have a guy do both. I get that somebody might be the best player overall and do both well, but you risk messing up his pitching rest and rehab routine by having him bat and/or play a position on days he doesn't pitch.

I guess the rationale is this: perhaps Lange can swing the bat, but do you risk him getting HBP or tweaking a hamstring running out a ground ball, early in the season? If he gets dinged up, you might destroy your chances to do anything, and odds are you have another guy as skilled with the bat to throw out there.

And if you don't start the season doing it, then he's likely to be rusty at the plate later on.

I SUPPOSE you might go the other way, let someone like Deichman come in and throw some fastballs if your pen is empty, gotta figure he can bring the heat (if he can find the plate). Still a big risk.

With the scholly limits, and the way private schools can get around them, the public universities will need to do more of this in the future.

Will Harris is the only I can think of after Jones.

Although Jones is a weird case, because he was a late pitching discovery and hardly had any ABs once he became a pitcher.

I don't think he ever did this, the only pinch hit AB I can think of after he became a pitcher was when he hit a single in one of our Arkansas blowouts in the CWS, he didn't pitch that game.

wut?

The 11.7 limit has been in place for a while and you still don't really see that many pitcher/hitters playing. There is nothing that says there will be some uptick in this.

And it's not like the private schools are dominating the game. Since 2000, Miami (01), Rice (03) & Vandy (14) are the only privates to win a title.

What I was getting at is, without TOPS, some schools will struggle when some of these guys will get scholly at other schools versus having to pay themselves.
