When did LSU Football really become a big part your life?

I start off by saying that I am sunshine pumper so deal with it. I like Miles so deal with it. And already I have lost some readers but that's ok you wouldn't understand this post anyway.
But I pose this question because after the LSU/Bama game I think I finally came to the realization that LSU football for me is more than just a game. Not to sound blasphemous, but it is almost religious. It is a much bigger part of my life than I ever realized.
Its bigger than I could put into words and it has slowly progressed/changed the older I get (now 30). I grew up in BR and went to games, but as a child the most I remembered was the booing and the stadium clearing out early. My young understanding of football was during the worst time for LSU football. But I guess it all began to change after that victory for the SEC West against Auburn in 2001, onside kick to start the game for jumping on our midfield, FU Tubs ...That was when it started to become more than just a game and a fun time drinking.
Then of course came the UGA 2003 game at home, after UGA scored on that long screen pass, instead of the crowd quieting down, the L-S-U chant came reigning down (Richt still remembers this). The obsession began to sink in. Then of course FLA 2007 it became more of an infatuation than ever.
But it was after this loss to Alabama that I realized that LSU football is more than all of these things, its why my friend's cousin hasn't missed a game in 20 plus years, its traveling and going to work that next Monday dog tired, but you knew it was all worth it in the end, win or lose. It is why after the Miss St game this Saturday night I will be sad because there will not be anymore night games in TS for another 10 months.
Last season was great, but we got deprived/forgot one of the most heralded and unbelievable experience that we get to enjoy as Tiger Fans, big time night games in TS.
But even after last weeks loss, which was not a happy moment, it created a feeling/emotion that I never realized I had. LSU football will always be apart of me, win or lose, its bigger than me, it's actually 92,000 people bigger than me...all coming to one place to do one thing, cheer on our beloved Tigers and enjoy every moment in the wonderful old gal that is Tiger Stadium.
Hope this Saturday night can be just as magical for everyone else because I know it will be for me.

When I was a kid listening to LSU vs Ole Miss on the radio, back in the early 70's. It became a hobby.

When I started playing, it was more important than anything. During college, I lived for Saturday nights. Post college, a loss on Saturday would ruin my weekend and 2 days after. Then I got married, had kids, got a life ... now it's just entertainment provided by 18-22 year old kids.

When I transferred to LSU. I was only a passive fan before that. I grew up in New Orleans, so I was a Tulane fan as a kid (mostly just basketball).
Glad those days are over.

Once I graduated from college and joined the real world, I realized there are more important things in life than watching a bunch of 18-21 years olds run around tackling each other. Don't get me wrong, I still love LSU, but it doesn't consume me like it did when I was 18.

When I was about 4 & my uncle played for the tigers.

Being forced to live in Alabama. Alabama and Auburn fans were the most annoying piece of shite fanbases in the NCAA, and I liked to see both teams lose to see them unhappy.
That turned into me picking LSU as a favorite team to see beat each team due to family background.

What? Did you sleep through 86-88?
I'm about your age, and the answer to your question is the 1987 bowl game where we beat S. Carolina. I think I was 5.

I was about then as well. I started asking for tickets to games, decorating my room (I have some really cool pennants that are old school), and never missing the games.
Outside of God and family...duck hunting is the only thing that comes close.

When I was a kid when LSU would lose, and they sucked, it ruined my week. I knew I was hooked then, and it's never left me. Thank god for the recent successes. There are a lot of spoiled arse bitches on this board.

I would say 5 or 6. The worst was when I was 16-24 though. Losses would ruin my entire w/e and most of the next week. I get over losses fairly quick now.

I followed LSU in middle/high school and went to some big games UF07 and the BCSNCG. I didn't go balls to the wall until I started at LSU in 2009.

It started consuming my life after the 2000 season when I saw that we had a real team and a good coach, and that we were destined for bigger things! Beating Tenn in the SECCG in 2001 only confirmed my thoughts. Of course I was a fan before way back in the 80's when I was a student, but we did not have success that we are enjoying today.
When did you LSU Football really become your life?
