So much has changed for LSU fans and even college football fans in general. First off, the last 10-12 years of LSU football has been the greatest run in school history. So some fans have taken things for granted and only show up for the big games. It is really a pain in the arse to drive 4+ hours one way, spend 2 nights in a hotel, spend all day tailgating then go watch LSU play Furman.

Secondly, the advent of the satellite dish has allowed so many people to soak up the game day atmosphere on campus while enjoying the comforts of home in the parking lot during the game.

Not necessarily traveling far - a much-overlooked fact is that once you plunge into southward into Florida along either of the coasts, you depart the South and enter a twilight zone (majority) population of displaced Big Ten fans. These are the people and children of people who have set down some roots in Florida, at least for part of every year. But they originated in some midwestern state or another, and have congenital ties to any team that is Big Ten in texture. As well as a mild antipathy toward anything that reeks of the South or the SEC. Being used to the Florida of the panhandle, something that surprised me when we moved down here in 2006, there are as many or more Ohio State or Michigan fans living in Bradenton as there are Florida or Florida State fans.

Iowa is known to travel well and thus will usually get put in a better bowl than they deserve

LSU is running the risk of the exact opposite happening to us in the future. Not traveling well for our bowl game for the 2nd straight year could end up hurting us in the long run. I never expected our fans to gobble up tickets to the Outback Bowl, but I did think that we'd sell more than a couple of thousand tickets.

It's been way more than just the past two years, but I agree that LSU will start to get the reputation of not traveling well and it will really hurt bowl bids.

What LSU fan wants to travel to a second rate bowl to watch their team get outcoached again?

We already have that reputation with the Florida bowls. The only bowls we travel well is in New Orleans and Dallas. The last 2 Atlanta trips weren't that great, either.

I understand what you are trying to say, but that bowl with the number 69 & 70 team would be crap.

I've noticed a lack of enthuasiam out of a lot of folks in the LSU community...

wondering how much is simply fatigue after this football season or the crappy condition of the economy?

Plus, unlike in the past, now we have to spend extra money to travel for our one decent OOC "home" game every year. Wisconsin in Houston Labor Day weekend versus Iowa ( ) at 10 AM in a place you can't get to except by air, and the Disney crew have scooped up any reasonably priced ticket from New Orleans to Tampa long ago. And I've got spending fatigue from Joe reaching into all my pockets and under my sofa cushions for every nickle and dime, meanwhile watching mediocre teams give us more than we can handle. Ar Kansas, while an exciting win, didn't exactly inspire those of us that sat out there and watched a pitiful excuse for an SEC team beat our butts up until the final minutes.

This bowl game is easily the 5th most interesting trip all the way around for the LSU fanbase, and its the last one.

Those dollars have been spent, and people already have an eye on trips to Houston, Auburn, Fayetteville next year that are just much more intriguing.

LSU has a bad reputation with the florida bowls most likely because they suck and aren't worth the trip.

I don't know the exact total, but I was told that ticket sales have been very poor. The Outback Bowl sent LSU 12,000 tickets to sell, and less than half of those have been sold. There are those who will buy tickets from brokers, but at this rate, it doesn't look very promising from a fan turnout perspective.

The sad part is the 69-70 teams are even playing in a bowl.

LSU has sold right at 6,000 as of today. Iowa has sold just over 10,000. Expect Iowa fans to outnumber LSU fans by 2/1. Iowa fans outnumbered us at the 2004 CapOne as well although not 2/1.

I saw somewhere we had an allotment of 12,00 tickets. I'll be surprised if we reach 10,000
