Since 2012 we have given up 315+ yds to the following
ATM - 410
BAMA - 331
MState - 351
OM - 463
AR - 462
Clem - 445
AUB - 455
GA - 449
MS St - 468
FL - 327
Ol Ms – 525
BAMA - 372
ARK 360
Wisky -318
Miss St – 570
Auburn – 566
OM – 315
Bama 315
ND - 449
So 19 out of 39 games we did not play great D. or 48.7% of the time. Remove the 9 rent a wins it becomes 63.3% of the time we did not play great D.

Anyone else shocked to see that many games with 300+ yards hung on LSU? Saw it on another site and found it interesting.

Thoughts?

as long as our Defense keeps us in the game I don't care how many yards we give up.

another thing, college football has changed offense is alot more important, look who was in the championship last year. Oregon and Ohio State both who had great offense and average D.

bend but not break with a team like aTm. yards don't matter, if they have to punt or only get 3, i'm happy

I'm a much bigger fan of points per game, but in regards to yards I'd always want the opposing offense to be under 300. The more you give up after that I would think the less likely your own offense is going to keep up.

You dont let them gain another yard. You make them remember, the night they played the Tigers.

Too many times in recent years the defense has lost a game. Now the offense hasn't helped that cause, but being on the field last and having to get a stop hasn't worked well for us. That's everyones gripe with Chavis. Couldn't stop anyone before the half or when it mattered most. Hopefully with the coaching change we will see the defense back to a spot where we want them on the field with a chance to win it.

Yards dont matter, points do.

In 2011 we gave up 533 yards to WVU, butonly 21 points. In 2013 we gave up just 372 yards but also 38 points to Alabama.

I could care less if we give up 300, 400, 500 yards, if the points allowed are kept low, the prior doesnt matter.

A lot of the offenses LSU faces are going to put up yards no matter how well LSU plays defense. It's keeping them out of the end zone that is important.

To put your benchmark of 315 in perspective, if LSU allowed exactly 315 yards in every game, it would have had the 8th ranked defense in the nation (instead, it was 9th, at 316.8)

Allowing 315 yards is pretty great defense in this era. It's not 1958 anymore.

4 turnovers and a Honey Badger certainly helped

Exactly a bend, but don't break defense. I feel this year we have a defense that will force lots of turnovers and put up some points as well. Imagine if the defense averages almost 3 turnovers per game and at least one of those turnovers puts us in scoring position.

What's the benchmark for allowing 400+? There's 11 of those mixed in there

Any number as long as offense scores more points than defense gives up. Stats means nothing if you don't win the game. Stat is for Chavis.

300 yards is nothing in today's game.

This. 315 is a pretty decent day against a quality opponent.

Not even remotely. As others have said, Chavis's entire philosophy is to make teams drive 80 yards on every drive. Very few sacks, very few turnovers. Add in that two of the three years in that time frame have fielded poor defenses, and you have your answer.

315 seems pretty arbitrary. Also, are you familiar with how averages work?
