Easy Miles is no where near GOAT. Saban is the reason for his championship with 2 losses. The man will forever be the most overrated garbage head coach in history. He comes before Saban and he is fired in 3 years. He is Larry Coker

Let's be fair here: Saban won the 2001 SEC title and Sugar Bowl with a squad that consisted of majority DiNardo players, so with that logic you should argue DiNardo is the reason for that championship that saved Saban's job. McClendon achieved what he achieved immediately with Dietzel's players. Still gotta coach em up. History holds Miles has a overall higher win percentage than Saban, advanced to more SEC title games than Saban, and advanced to more national title games than Saban. Also, the Tigers went 9-3 Saban's last season with Skyler, LaRon, Marcus Spears, Ben Wilkerson, Corey Webster, Travis Daniels, Kyle Williams, Addai, Vaughn, Lionel Turner, Highsmith and Andrew Whitworth. CMON MAN.

there is NO WAY Miles comes in and does what Saban did
Conjecture.

Facts are at previous programs:
W% were within a %point.
Miles won a bowl game, while Saban was ofer and actually skulldrug in every loss.
I believe Miles had a slight edge in recruiting also.

I got an opinion too. Miles suffered from law of diminishing return.
After a decade of mediocre to miserable seasons, what was ecstasy over Saban's LSU record, was meh with Miles.
Also, mostly due to Bama, I think Miles time had run it's course and it was time for change fwiw.

O must win 9 plus games in the next 10 years with 2 or more national titles and 3 or more sec titles to overtake miles. A lot of fans don't truly appreciate the success miles had for over a decade.never had less than 8 wins. Even saban can't say that at bama

True, however winning 4 natties in 7 seasons with amount of scholarship players per team reduced to 85 and better college talent than in eras past is nothing short of one of the all-time greatest sports achievements.

Then why didn't Saban win one with those guys in 2004?
Why then is it Miles had to really work on the 2005 team to get it to 2006 and 2007 status.
Curiously awaiting your answer.

This!

I would add sustained success too. But the second title might give him a little wiggle room. Basically LSU has to return to dominance and start beating Bama again. We'll see if he can get it done.

This year if he can make things go LSUs way, could be a nice career starter for him. I really think some people are underestimating LSU, our own fans and of course the opposing fans as well.

I think our own fans are just snake bit from Miles past years combined with hiring a coach with a background which leaves a little to be desired. He's going to have to make some tough decisions this year which will make or break this season so it's going to be on display year one. GT

No. Saban put LSU on the map. Les Miles put LSU on national tv more than any other team.

What if Meyer would've went to Bama when he stayed (Meyer to UF '05)?
What if he stayed with Fins, or returned to CFB in a different conf?
This is all the stuff daydreams are made of.

None of those guys came here because they wanted to play for Less Miles. They came here because of LSU, i.e., the LSU brand and the flagship university of Louisiana. They also wanted to play in Tiger Stadium, the greatest college football stadium in the country.

100% false and wrong. It takes tons and tons of talent and hard work for a coach to bring in talented athletes. I give Les Miles tons of credit for being an amazing recruiter. Just look at the LSU coaches during the 80's and 90's. The elite Louisiana talent left the state.

Also, look at Bama before Saban went there and see whether or not the "Bama Brand" recruited a top notch team for them. Obviously, it did not because they were not very good until he brought their program back from the dead.

f Less Miles was average he would already have a coaching job. However, he was mediocre, which is why he doesn't have a coaching job.

Why do so few people understand the meaning of the word mediocre? It is a synonym of average. It means not that good, but not that bad either.. Did you mean to say that he was below average?

It's not easy to debate this because everyone wants to compare their records and championships. Saban and Emmert changed everything from the coaches to the admin office to the trainers to everything. LSU didn't know how to be "an elite" program before they arrived. Sometimes that's what it takes. Change. From the top, down. You can't compare Miles and Saban in wins and losses. The "PROGRAM" woke up because of Saban's demand for perfection from everyone. New facilities, new high school coaches relationships, then the wins came, then the big wins came, then the championships came. Miles never had that discipline to demand what Saban did. Miles took over a Farrari and kept it going until his coaching and philosophy deficiencies were exposed. He knew it and got as much money out of LSU as he could before he would get fired. It worked. Good riddance. I don't know about O yet but team discipline in penalties and sideline confusion alone will be better...

Point is... Saban made LSU....LSU made Miles... O need to forge his own legacy...

I'm not even getting into the argument over Miles vs. Saban at LSU.

What I do find laughable, though, is that some of you idiots actually believe Orgeron belongs in the same company as either of them.

IDK LSU was quite an elite program in the 50s, 60s, 80s and in 1996-97 before the bottom fell out

So it's all about who's a "better" coach than accomplishments? Hmmm
