(I don't know baseball)

What was Foster supposed to do since their catcher was sitting/covering the entire plate without the ball. It looked like he actually beat the throw if he hadn't slowed up at the last moment. Is the only play to plow into the catcher? What would a coach tell him to do next time?

Don't listen to these guys. He was supposed to get a better break. Now as far as the slide he should have hook slid to the outside

not a thing- NCAA you can't hit the catcher so you do exactly what he did. It was just well executed by TCU

I know that's not allowed anymore but it would have been worth it, unless it got Foster ejected.

frick it here's a gif:

Notice how AJ slaps down the plate with authority. This is crucial. He didn't get his left arm up in time to parry the ensuing blow, but he still got the run.

But in my eyes he beat the throw, he just had to slow up because their was no option to get to the plate. So he was supposed to turn around and go back?

Crush the catcher
The rules of college baseball were changed to prevent collisions at the plate. The TCU catcher blocked the plate, but he was allowed to because he was in position to receive the throw. Foster would have been called out and ejected from the game. Give TCU credit their centerfielder made a great throw, and their catcher made a good play at the plate.
