Good advice. You want people to know you came all the way down to cheer for LSU. They'll treat you like kings.

DO NOT go to New Orleans Friday night. You should be in BR and out tailgating by 9am, and you can't do that if you stay in New Orleans Friday night. Don't miss a second of the gameday experience.

Musts for gameday:
- Get out as early as you can and be ready for free beer and the best food you'll ever eat.

- Watch the band come down the hill. Its really cool.

- Stand around the PMAC and try and get a TAF member to invite you inside to watch the band.

- Get in the stadium early. YOU CANNOT MISS PREGAME. This is the most important. Tiger Band's pregame performance is widely known as the craziest, loudest pregame in all of college football. The place will be absolutely ape shite, and you cannot miss it.

Make sure you make it by as many tailgates as you can just to pick up the little differences in tailgates. Each one has it's own traditions and personalities. The entire campus will be crazy with at least 200,000 people till gametime. Enjoy and hope to see you around. If I see a delaware shirt I will certainly get you a beer!

We're pleased to have you visit. It's much appreciated. If you want some BR food try Jay's Barbeque on Gov't. St., near the LaQuinta. Also, right across the railroad tracks is a Acme Oyster Bar. The food is good, the service ok. It's a NO institution that has expanded into BR.
Best Mediterranean food I've ever had is at Roman's, also on Gov't but several miles away.
The Union Bookstore has a great selection of shirts etc. It will be crowded.
I've been going to LSU games since 1959 (I was 7) and have NEVER seen a piss balloon. It's a myth, but we like to keep those alive!
As you wander around on gameday, just go up to any interesting group, say you're visiting because you've alway heard about Tiger fans, and you will eat and drink like a king. Caution: don't over do the drinking. It's a rookie mistake. Pace yourself.

Bookstore in the Student Union for LSU t-shirts and other stuff
Walk-Ons south of the stadium is a good place to soak up pre and post-game atmosphere...will be crowded tho....food is good!
Chimes on highland is good atmosphere...lots of college kids there....Varsity next door has good live music
RV Parks south of stadium have lots of good tailgating but you can find that anywhere!!

Enjoy and be nice!!!

Piss balloons are as one poster said earlier a myth...sorta!!

Taught and coached at Newark HS until retiring 3 years ago; wish I could go with you this weekend. Born and raised in Baton Rouge and have bled purple and gold forever.....You'll have a great time; you don't need to go to New Orleans, just soak up everything in and around the campus.

LOL @ whoever suggested they visit the Caterie. I hear Plank Road is also nice this time of year...

+1 to suggesting seeing the Golden Band come down the hill, and seeing pregame.

The words "Geaux Tigers" are magic on Saturday. Those two words will get you fed and watered all afternoon. Tailgating is done best in BR, there's just no contest.

If you are on a sports bucket list here, the Chimes is a must IMO. You NO is a good option...but it isn't really LSU related and you can do NO stuff on another trip. Not to mention you will be driving an hour and a half to spend money out of your arse for a half decent meal. I will agree though that there is not much happening in BR usually. If you do go to NO and do the French Quarter scene, I will recommend going to Pat O'Brians and getting a Hurricane.

Like has been said, it is located directly north of campus.

Couple of things about it to keep in mind:
1)They don't do reservations. They are held in high enough regard that they feel that they are better off just letting people come in as fast as they can clear tables and this is especially true on game day.

They don't do exceptions either...ESPNRadio badmouthed them one time because they were told they would have to wait an hour for seats on gameday.

2) They have a WIDE selection of beer from around the world. If you are a beer guy be sure to try some.

3) Get the blackened 'gator appetizer. :P Not just because of the UF game, it is one of my favorite dishes there. The spinach and artichoke dip is also money.

FWIW, another popular destination is Walk-Ons, located close to the stadium on Burbank. But personally I think it to be overpriced shite.

As for other general advice:
Get there early:
even if you don't want to get there early enough to be there for College Gameday, we take our games seriously, arguably more than most even in the SEC. People will be setting up their tailgates the night before and especially because Gameday is here some will start in the wee hours in the morning. As early as 2 PM, parking will be getting scarce as folks start parking long the side of the road about a mile from the stadium and start walking.

Do not plan on doing anything that requires driving on gameday. Traffic will be a pain and a huge timesink, especially around campus where roads are arbitrarily blocked off. If you need to pick something up/run errands, do so before. the only driving you are going to want to do is to get on campus.

+1

ESPECIALLY that night.

This probably the biggest home game for LSU in 50 years and a big match up between the top two teams in CFB over the past decade (USC is the only team even close to having a point of contention with that statement) and the teams who have won the national championships of the past 3 years. You will feel the fricking electricity IN THE AIR, something I have missed in other stadiums, no matter how historic or high profile the match up.

I just hope the rain doesn't short circuit that charge.

Mike Anderson's is a great place to eat. If you get in early enough on Friday, you can go to the levee near the campus, drive south on levee road about 17 miles, and catch a ferry across the Mississippi for one dollar. then drive north to the big river bridge back to Baton Rouge. It takes about one hour, and may not sound like much, but it is the coolest thing. to be standing outside, on the ferry ride, going across the river is awesome. and when you cross the bridge heading east on I-10 and look south and see the campus and stadium in the distance, very cool. it is the most authentic thing you can do to get some Louisiana flavor. most locals have not even done it. you will love it.

This is one of the first times that I have seen a visitor ask for advice on maximizing a first time experience in Tiger Town without some freakin idiot telling them to go to plank road or other such nonesense.

Every response was positive and helpful.

WAY TO GO TIGER FANS!!!!

Show the world what real fans are like.
