what transpired beforehand left me with an uneasy feeling.

the kickoff out of bounds. you have ALL the momentum that you can ask for. you get the ball first coming out at halftime. anddddd you practically gifted them great field position.

We had all the momentum. Then within just a few plays:

* Kickoff out of bounds leads to...
* 55 yd field goal
* Followed by Tony Brown lighting up Guice on the kickoff
* Then an interception to start 2nd half

4 plays, game over.

How hard is it to keep the damn ball in bounds? Two years in a row we can't against them.

The little midget busted it, and it happened to go through the uprights. Probably a 1 out of 8 kick.

I feel like I saw the kickoff returner hit inside the 10 yard lines more often in this game than in my entire life up to that point.

I knew the game was over at that point

Bama NEVER EVER makes those type of kicks against us

We had all the momentum tying it up 10-10 going into halftime then we do another stupid fricking sky kick and it lands out of bounds and set them up perfectly for a FG before the half. Then I thought oh hell yeah they are out of FG range when they had that 4th down. Thought for SURE Saban would punt so in case he missed that we couldn't get a big play then a FG try ourselves.

frick
That

When we sent him out, I turned to my buddy sitting beside me, chuckled and said "wtf are we doing"

Initially we sent the punter out, after the game Saban said he just went up to Adam and asked him if he could make the kick. Griffith said he could hit it, so we called timeout and sent him out there. The wind was howling but I noticed that it wasn't really blowing at field level, the flags on the goal post were still

It was windy as frick as well. I didn't think he'd hit it, but props to him for doing so.

The sequence right before half was the most demoralizing thing that could have happened.

I felt that after the int, then the resulting TD.

We've had to have set some kind of record the past two years for most kick offs that landed out of bounds?!?

The rant wouldn't leave the kicker out of this conversation, either....

quote:

m not actually alledging anything, but did anyone else see Henry's post game interview and think he was on something? That dude was talking a mile a minute. It was weird.

YEah, "DontCare"....don't allege anything, but still come out and say that the guy who stomped a mudhole in us was acting weird.

Or this :

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
t wouldn't shock me if it came out years later that Bama was on something. It was literally an NFL-level front 7. Everyone has 85 schollys, it's hard to imagine they tossed around our OL (who has dominated everyone else) like rag dolls without some type of artificial advantage.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah, that's it. Can we include the kicker on that 'artificial' advantage too?

The rant can't take an asswhoopin for what it is. An asswhoopin. They were better prepared. Did you not see that in every aspect of the game?

That whole sequence illustrated just how fricking pathetic LSU's special teams approach seems to be.

1. 55 yard kick - by nature, that kick is going to come out with a lower trajectory than usual. Does LSU not have one 6'3"+ DE or WR, or just someone with great leaping ability, on the roster that they can stick in the middle of the kick-defense team to try and block the kick? Ole Miss stuck a DB who was a former all-state basketball player in the middle of their kick-defense when they HAD to keep Ark. from making the gamewinning FG at the end of regulation. Not surprisingly, that guy got up and blocked the kick.

2. The Kick-offs out of bounds are a fricking joke. Anyone who pays attention to LSU's kickoff's can see that they are intentionally forcing the kicker to try to kick the ball in the corner, short of the goal line. I understand the logic behind it, but it's difficult to execute. LSU has had no less than 4 kickoffs go out of bounds this season (nearly two just vs. Bama) How many times are they going to have to kick the ball out of bounds before they finally stop this asinine approach? Everyone else, college and pro, just lines up and kicks the ball deep. They don't try to "place" the ball somewhere. If they are doing it because they don't have a kicker that can get the ball to the endzone, then shame on them. There are 4 fricking kickers on the roster. Are you telling me not a single one can reach the endzone?

3. I have no idea what is going on with the KO return blocking. Maybe it was just this one game against Bama, but Voorhies seemed to always be in the area watching the return man get blasted. Don't tell me LSU doesn't have the athletes to have solid special teams.

Outside of the FG kicking, that unit is an absolute clusterfrick

All 3 of your points are based on the idea that our Special Teams would have competent leadership. We have established they don't, therefore I am not surprised that these three plays are what I believe changed the momentum of the game (along with Harris' INT).
