He was UNBEARABLE when Tebow was at Florida. I remember Tebow scoring on us and Brando watching the replay going, "I'm here, LSU, where are you?!".

There is a reason that a board member made the leaks and it served its purpose.
They wanted the story out there that Herman was offered the job prior to the LSU/A&M game. That way people knew up front that Coach O was not still auditioning for the job.
There is nobody on the BOT that wants Coach O to get the job on a permanent basis and that may have even come down to them being happy that LSU lost to UF last weekend because it made things a little easier.
