Could the police chief be setting up the players to lie to an investigating officer when he rambles on about "if there was just a video out there he'd already have made arrests"?

Sorry if Germans, but I don't think it's in the best interests of the players to talk and they should just let their attorney do the talking. "Anything you say can be held against you" is the law, whereas there is no mention in the law that says, "Anything you say could exonerate you or be used on your behalf."

There is no way in hell Nathan Fisher wouldn't know about it if it was admitted as evidence.

It's still under investigation phase. I don't think the police have to tell Fisher until the trial. Of course I'm not an attorney so I really don't know, but that would make sense to me.

This isn't a trial, the police don't have to tell Fisher shite at this point. They could easily let the players talk up a storm, and then let them know they have a video that disputes/backs up their claims.

Or they could bluff and say they have a video and see if the players change their stories.

Stone said Monday that police obtained video from a business near Shady’s bar. But, Stone said, “we are not releasing what’s on that video at this time.”

I don't think y'all realize what kind of stick Nathan Fisher carries. If the police have a video he knows about it.

eta: And if by some chance they don't tell him and he even gets the slightest wind of it he'll pull the interview today.

and i don't think you understand how the legal process works.

He doesn't have a right to anything the police have collected as of yet, nor what information is contained within.

You guys act as though this is a high-stakes murder investigation in which they want to trip up a dangerous suspect. Why not just put all the cards on the table and see what's what? It's worth emphasizing that none of these young men have priors. This will never go to trial and no one is going to jail.

It's not about the legal system. I'm telling you, they won't keep Nathan Fisher out of the loop. There's a reason why he's always involved in these cases for LSU.

that's not how the police operate when there is a complaining witness with injuries requiring Hospital attention that have filed a complaint.

I realize that you want them to do that, but that's not what is done. There actually is procedure they follow. Releasing evidence to the potential aggressor before knowing their side of the story is NOT part of that procedure.

By law they kind of have to.

But live in whatever fantasy world you want.

Yeah, I'm the one in the fantasy world. I know you're a cop and all but if you think this is going down like any other routine investigation you're nuts.

I don't know criminal procedure in Baton Rouge, so I'll take your word for it. I don't see how they could possibly run afoul of regs or ethics by saying "listen boys, we have clear video evidence of you pulling the kid from the car while he's attempting to leave the area, so let's work from there". Again, I don't see what they have to lose by "tipping their hand" in a low-stakes affair like this.

Yes, the police, with local and national media focused in, are going to NOT follow procedure and give evidence to the potential aggressor before taking their statement...because LSU is ranked #3 in the polls.

People would lose their career if they did that and it ever got out.

Their job is to interview suspects and determine what happened. Lying is way to determine guilt. As a result, interviewing individuals WITOUT knowledge of what they know is the ebst way to determine the truthfulness of the individual's statement.

I realize you WANT them to tip their hand, but that's not the way it's done. Sorry. Why do you think the players lawyer said he probably wasn't going to let them even speak?

exactly, this case is under a microscope as if it was a murder case. I would think they are dotting the "i"s and crossing the "t"s.
