speaking of OHS , Michael Hayes was a beast in HS. 6'5" 220 lbs. WR that could run a 4.6. Signed with LSU in '98 and saw limited action before transferring to Southern after his FR year.
Hayes never panned out at the next level due to being injury prone and dropping to many passes.
another Opelousas area great was John Thierry who played at Plaisance HS. He was a 1st rd., 11 overall selection in the 1994 NFL draft. I don't remember his HS recruitment as he played at Alcorn

They had a great safety his Senior year as well...Dude was a stud. He blew out his ACL in the 3rd game though.
Yea, that was me!
I wasn't very good, but at least I was a starter. Devery was a blessing to play with. All class.

They had a coach named Lynn Amedee before

OHS football was so poorly coached during that time period, it was embarrassing.
That said, I got to watch Devrey set the state record in 4 consecutive track events. Dude was crazy fast.

Devery played at Opelousas High School- Tigers
Played at Donald Gardner Stadium
They had some great athletes when I was in high school from 83-86 at a town in that Acadiana area where we played them in many sports and for a few years afterward.
I went to a quarterfinal playoff game in 1992 as John Curtis (No. 1 in Class 4A) came to OHS (No. 7) and what a game... OHS outplayed them by a bunch as their athletes were too fast for JC to handle although the game was close and OHS won in Double OT by a TD...

Did you get to watch them get their shite pushed in by Salmen!! It was highway robbery!! Salmen went on to beat Curtis in the 4A Championship game!! The first championship of a 2 peat!! The 2nd championship game Cecil Collins got shut the frick down. He was supposed to be this all-American that was unstoppable! We were revved up as a team and shut his arse down to under 100 yards. Which was our goal. That 95 Salmen team doesn't get the credit it deserves. But it def is one of the top 5 teams to ever come out of Louisiana!! Spartan Pride Baby!!

Devery also lead the NFL 2 years in YPC

I played against Benny Guilbeau and Robert Hammond in high school. I played DB and it was like trying to cover fricking race horses. It was pouring that game and they were catching everything!

Opelousas, he is my cousin. The stories I could tell this board about his recruitment process

All good guys but Robert Hammond was the man on that team. Also Sam George was our starting QB..... Short , had an arm, and quick with the option! That team went on to beat John Curtis in double overtime. Had some studs on defense
I played on the defensive line with Todd McClure. Sam George and company killed us in the playoffs. 2nd play of the game flee-flicker for a TD.
Trey McClure was our QB, 3rd in passing yards in the state that season behind Josh Booty and Peyton Manning. Trey said after the game in the 4th quarter that he just starting laughing hysterically because NOTHING worked. We were out of plays and Opelousas just stuffed EVERYTHING we did that night.
