Read your own article:

quote:

Caldwell said she appreciated UCLA Athletic Director Dan Guerrero's efforts to keep her in Westwood with a multiyear contract offer that included a raise from her salary of around $300,000 per year.

She wasn't making $300k. Also, I don't think you understand what negotiation means. If she was such a great coach, why did UCLA only offer to raise her to $300k. Was her contract really negotiated? Where are you getting that from? We offered she accepted. So your saying she wouldn't come if we only doubled her salary?

Alleva wanted Caldwell because of her ties to Tenn. Please provide some proof that they actually negotiated the contract; proof where we offered less money. Link?

He threw a ton of cash at her and she said yes. Don't act like she was saying; "I am not going for $1 less than $700k. I am making not making $300k here, but you are going to pay me $700k."

I don't care if that was the going rate for Coaches in the SEC, that didn't mean we had to pay her that. Especially with very little on the resume. If she does well she gets a raise.

That is why Alleva sucks. She was smart to take the money. So quit saying she was worth it. None of them are worth it, Aleva was just stupid to offer it to her. He couldn't get KMR for $700, but he knew he could get Caldwell. She was smart enough to take it. Also, Alleva should be fired for paying her more than Manieri, regardless of the market. He has a championship and his sport makes money.

It is real amazing that people still think that Mulkey would ever come here. That needs to be placed on the "rant logic" list.

Where did you get all that stuff about her being worth every nickel,

She's DEFINITELY worth the salary.

Is she worth $700K........................? She's worth more than that if you ask me.

she'd be great immediately, and that they together would win an SEC championship and make a final four?

As for recruiting, Nikki should be able to hit the ground running. We'll have 5 seniors on next season's team. So that means in her first recruiting class she'll have room to haul in a top 3 nationally ranked class. Not only will LSU be competing for SEC championships, at that point we'll also be competing for NCAA Championships.

I will concede I could not find where you put a 3 year deadline on the championships, and that you said she'd only be competing for them, not winning them.

Competing or winning, either way, your projections have been way off.

Looks like YOU are the one who needs to read. The article clearly states that she was MAKING $300K, not that her salary was going to be RAISED to $300K. Jeesh!

I think I have a VERY good comprehension of what negotiation means by the way. In a salary negoation both sides come to an agreement of what the compensation package will be. THAT is a negotiation, regardless of how both parties arrived at the final compensation. Alleva knew he couldn't get Mulkey for that amount......that is indeed correct. No one in their right mind would think that. One of the other coaches that Alleva was looking at was Jeff Walz, who at the time was making right around $775K. Alleva knew what the market demanded for an up an coming good coach. So, he made the investment. What he's paying the women's basketball coach has nothing to do with what the baseball coach at LSU makes. The two are mutually exclusive. If Maneiri wants a bigger salary then he needs to get a better agent. Either way, LSU felt that getting a quality women's basketball coach was worth the investment, regardless of what any of us on here think.

Honorary Coonass, I don't back off of any of my statements. Up to the point where the team started this six game slide they were getting better. In fact, they'd gotten better every seasons she's been here UP TO this losing streak. Where were you when the team was 17-4 and ranked #2 in the nation? At that point, they WERE in contention of winning the SEC championship. If you don't think the coach was worth it now, surely you felt the same way then..................or is it just convenient to come on here now and say "I told you so!"?

I DO still think she was worth the money. She does need to figure out what is going on with the team lately but, overall she's definitely lifted LSU higher than the previous coach did. As of right now, this current losing streak is just a bump in the road............it sucks.......but that's all it is right now. If it continues into next season, then I'd say otherwise. But until then, I'm fully behind coach Caldwell.

I would have no issue if they paid Nikki a Million. She's the best person for this Job. I just hope Nikki and Torina, aren't taken away by better jobs and are here for a long, long time.

Lucky to have these two ladies representing LSU.

The $$ is what it is I have NO issue with NC's salary, now if she does not win (in 4 or so total years)she needs to be removed and the next coach will NOT cost less, if she wins she gets raises....we paid market price for a top 10 program (something UCLA is NOT)but something me and many others (once again we have 2500+ season ticket holders) want to have. NC is not doing a good job lately and if it continues she will be gone, but it is not about the money...

Mulkey, I don't think so. She would laugh at LSU if offered.

Our women guards are 4 feet 8 inches tall. Blame Hickey and Trent Johnson.

LSUalum, I am nothing but a Nikki supporter. I still stand by her. If next year is like this. I'm afraid she will be on the hot season and will possibly be leaving. But everyone, if you look at Nikki's recruiting classes at UCLA compared to here, its not even close. Ballard was a good grab, she's terribly inconsistent, Moncrief willbe a good player, Harden is solid but the supporting role players are not very good. I uunderstandYoungblood is a project, but you cannot tell me she couldn't land anyone better to go with her. Rina hill is fine, she's young, I question Jasmine Rhodes offensively, she just doesn't look comfortable. To be honest, I hate our offensive scheme, we barely have any movement. The game we play is screen, take long jumper, or give it to Plaissance. One thing I noticed this season was when players like Ballard or Moncrief penetrated, no one would move to an open spot on the court as an outlet so they can put up a shot. Boykin just doesn't do anything for me, she is very slow defensively, she fouls way too much, and she has ZERO range. I'm really hoping the transfers are solid because if not, next season could be a struggle. Our depth isn't talented compared to teams like Tennessee, South Carolina, and A&M

Tigerbait, you'll get no argument from me. I think everything you've said is true. Although I do like Sheila Boykin's game, and I think Harden should be a starter at this point. But everything else I would pretty much agree with you on. It's clear that this season is pretty much a goner. If this continues into next season, then the coaching staff SHOULD BE on the proverbial "hot seat". I am a little worried about the recruiting for this upcoming class. We don't have any recruits in the ESPN top 100..........that is worrisome.
