how did he pass away? i used to know but i cant remember right now

As I recall, he committed suicide.

If I remember well, he had some business problems and jumped off a building in Metairie on Causeway near I-10.
He was a great little running back, kind of a white precursor to Dalton Hilliard.

He was well before my time but I had always heard he took his life in another manner. Since that info may be wrong I won't reveal it here. My father, who graduated from LSU just before Labruzzo, always lists Joe as one of his all time favorite Tigers.

I can remember listening to John Ferguson calling the games and the excitement in his voice when Joe L was running with the ball.

I think he had a son that played some pretty good baseball at Denham Springs.

I have a co-worker who worked with him after college and got to know him pretty well. And since I know this to be fact I will post it. Joe's brother Frank was shot and killed by his girlfriend, and ended up falling out of an apartment window in Metairie. Not sure what floor they were on. Joe ended his own life in his front yard, by way of a shotgun. Sad stories all around.
