I know we have a bunch of new faces. How many are projected to start?

Man it's tough to even guess what the starting lineup is going to look like.

Like you said a ton of new faces. From all the chatter that you get from Coach Wade I would assume that you continue to see Duop, Epps, and Mays start. They get a ton of praise from coach. That being said, Sampson has also been called a "freak".

But they haven't really even begun practice yet so who knows if they could be passed up by some of the newcomers.

As of right now, something like:

Reath
Combs
Sampson
Edwards
Mays/Waters

Duop, Mays, and Sampson are almost guaranteed starters right now. I'd say Combs and Edwards have a good chance at grabbing the other two spots right now - but Alexander, Kiir, Rachal and Waters might have something to say about that before the season begins.

This roster is totally different from last year it's going to be hard to predict until the season gets closer to starting.

Also an interesting tidbit to keep in mind is that Coach has said countless times that he likes to play 2 point guards at a time. Could we see Mays and Waters together? Absolutely.

Now he has classified Edwards as a PG as well and said Sampson can handle the ball so basically it could be all coaches speak.

Sampson can probably guard the 3 if we went small

Too bad he wasn't here when Dale Brown coached. Sampson would have been perfect for that weird defense Brown invented...

I agree.

The two biggest weaknesses with the roster appear to be a lack of depth/size in the frontcourt and minimal outside shooting. There has been a lot of chatter about Epps, but it's hard to see him starting for two reasons (1) He's never been a guy who's showed a big willingness to play and defend inside (2) Combs is a grad transfer. Those guys generally don't transfer to a place where they aren't going to start.

Now, that's not to say Epps won't play significant minutes. LSU only has 4 guys 6'7 or taller (Reath, Epps, Combs, Kiir). Epps is going to have to log big minutes inside.

I think Edwards also starts because he might be LSU's only somewhat consistent outside shooter. Unless someone has really improved over the summer, there is no one on the roster that really scares opponents from three point range.

Since I'm drinking the Wade Kool-Aid hard like many others, I'm going to say that either Epps will learn to love defending inside or he will learn to love chillin on the bench.

Epps will start game 1 for sure. WW goes out of his way and talks about him in every interview even if the question(s) isn't about him. He must be working his arse off..

My guess would be:

Reath
Epps
Sampson
Mays
Waters

C - Duop Reath - Lock
F - Combs
G / F - Sampson or Kiir
G - Edwards or Randy Onwuasor (or whatever scoring G we sign)
PG - Mays or Waters

Thats a really good starting five but it can also look like this.
Reath
Epps
Rachal
Sampson
Mays

Thats a very athletic starting five that can match up with anybody in the SEC.
