I don't know what everybody thinks but I know what I think:
TGBFTL is critical to LSU's success.
TGBFTL is critical to LSU's success.

Best marching band in the country

They really get the fans excited for the pregame, after first downs, defensive stops, etc. I can't imagine going to a home game with no TGBFTL.

I think they are ingrained in alot of my best memories over the past 36 years. So they are awesome.

Honestly, the past two years their performance has been less than expected. I don't know if it is the restrictions on what they can play ( but lean this way). I hate piped in music. I wanna hear TGBFTL blasting throughout the game.....and yes, bring back NECK

Neck will not come back. Thank the student section for the vulgar chants, especially when on TV. PC police run amuck!

The band is critical to the game atmosphere. Without the band we become a Saints game on Saturday. I hope the band stays forever and the piped in music gets nixed

I like things with a Latin flair

Seems to me you are trying to start something here...what's behind this thread ?

They once played Neck for just me and my family so all I can say is I love em and they are the greatest!

Not sure if you get out much. For all the things they do, they have and always will have a special place in my heart.

I get out a lot and have seen many band better than ours. The half time show is easily the worst part of the game.

I have a fever, and the only cure is TGBFTL playing 70's show tunes at halftime.

Love the band, but they need to work on the song selections. Dave Mathews has never rocked. And the half time tribute to Spain is awful and way overdone

Love them for pregame and atmosphere. But they are absolutely horrific half time performers. Honest to god beleive they should just skip half time so that they don't miss half of the 3rd qtr. They used to be good at half time too.

No problem with the talent on the field. Just as good as any college marching band in the country and just as good as it's ever been.
The problem is at the Top. There's been a very noticeable (To both GBFTL Alums and regular LSU fans) decline in the quality of the half-time shows and in the overall sound of the band. Very noticeable if you have band experience OR if you don't.
You can equate and correlate the current situation to football.
William Swor and Frank Wickes were Nick Saban. Linda Moorhouse was Bill Arnsparger. Nick Rouse was Miles/DiNardo. Roy King is Curley Hallman and Mike Archer to a tee.
Some coaches are great assistants, but don't have the necessary qualities or knowledge to be Head Coaches or even Coordinators at this level.
Ex-LSU running backs coach Larry Porter is a perfect example. Great RB coach. Great recruiter. Totally incompetent as a Head Coach at Memphis.
Same thing with RK. He simply doesn't possess the necessary qualities to be a great Tiger Band Director. Was perfectly adequate as an Assistant/Associate Director. Not the head guy.
The half-time shows are incredibly BORING. There's no creativity or imagination. There's little entertainment value and that's exactly why so many people get up and leave at half-time. There's no reason to stay in your seat. It's the boring SOS every week.
We can see the reasoning of why the LSUAD is trying to find a way to keep people in their seats at the half. They think that bringing in these Rock Bands will do it, but we disagree. The only thing that will work is to hire an experienced Marching Band Director that has proven success in producing entertaining half-time shows that stand on their own week after week during the season; shows that will have people wanting to stay and watch and that will bring anticipation every week.
Easy fix to the problem if the will is there to actually fix it. Not Rocket Science.
Go hire a "Marching Band Nick Saban."
You'll have to do that because things aren't going to change with Curley.................
