What do you think LSU's -Proposed Spread- Offense should look like in 2016?

I highly doubt we see a drastic change such as implementing a "Power Spread" offense. However, if it is true that the staff is studying other schools' spread offenses, I wouldn't be surprised to see an Ace formation base next year. (3 WR, TE, no FB)

I thought the LSU offense of 2001 should be one we could utilize. Saban ran an unusual spread with Davey with constant three WR looks with a TE and single back. This seems logical for use on occasion to spread the defenses out opening it up for LF7. The only thing I hate seeing is the dead on obvious single WR sets with then men in the box. If Harris can ever make defenses pay for this, we score 35 ppg.

Why can't we run that offense?

What is it about you people and the hard on for a spread offense.

It's not a philosophy problem it is a creativity problem. Why would you go away from your stub RB?

Fournette has run his best out of the I formation.

Developing a competent QB that can make the throws needed and trustING him is what is needed

It's an execution problem. Watson runs the Read Option the way Harris should be able too. I think Harris has all the physical attributes, but he seems timid, low football IQ, etc... Pick one, pick a hundred different reasons...

I don't know about spread, but we can make this offense better

We should be in 3 wide formation as a base set. We just got four WRs that are 6'3", 6'4", 6'5", and 6'6". That doesn't include the 6'5" WR we already have on campus, the two 5 stars in Dupre 6'3" and Johnson 6'1", the 6'2" speedster in Chark, or the untapped potential in the below 6'0 WRs Quinn and Dillon.

Add in 6'4, 6'5, and 6'6 TE receiving targets in Smith, Washington, and Pettigrew, and RBs and FBs with hands like Fournette, Guice, Williams, Mouton, and Ducre.

LSU should be throwing 28-30 times a game. LSU should be running more plays per game. We got a shite ton of weapons to throw to. USE THEM! LSU averaged 75.28 plays per game in 2007. They averaged 31.57 passes per game and 43.7 rushes per game. They averaged 38.6 points per game and 439.4 yards per game. Those were some of the top numbers in the country back then.

It wasn't like Flynn was some magician either. He completed 56.3% of his passes averaging a paltry 6.7 ypa with 21 TDs and 11 ints in 359 attempts.

For instance, If you take just Flynn's attempts and put em to Harris you'd get 2800 yards 17 TDs 9 ints.

But Flynn was more of a gamer. While his stats look meh, he made big time plays and big time throws, something that Harris hasn't done very well, which brings me to my final thing on passing

Improve Harris, so you can improve the play calling. They don't attack all levels of the field like throwing over the middle regularly or throwing more short passes like screens, slants, hitches, and swing passes because Harris can't do it consistently, and they aren't as confident in it.

Get him up to speed so we can utilize the whole playbook. Get him into the shotgun more. Run more 4 and 5 WR sets to give him plenty of options. Motion the RBs out more. Guice should be in the slot more than once a game.

Harris struggled this year, but you can see the potential which makes me optimistic.



On running, it's pretty simple

Feed Fournette AND Guice. I'd like it if we could give Guice an average of 8-10 carries per game. Having both of them is like having Marcus Dupre and Walter Payton in the same backfield.

More misdirection and get Harris more involved in the option attack. A lot of teams use a ton of motion in the backfield as window dressing and end up running the same play over and over.
