To answer your question in one word, complacency.
LSU won a title in 2007 and Miles kicked his feet back at that point. He had plenty of resources and opportunity available to snap out of it and get hungry again. But he decided to put on cruise control and coast his way towards retirement.
He had a very large portion of the fanbase fooled and on his side. That portion started to shrink increasingly over the years. We're not done yet. Miles may be satisfied winning just enough to make a bowl game and coast his way towards retirement. But the fans are not. And finally, the AD is not either.

3) Loyalty is nice, but Miles' loyalty to friendly coaches is a huge issue. Miles has never been pro-active towards clear failures in the coaching staff: he always waits until it's such a glaring issue that he has to react.
And this fact has seeped into the brains and very souls of some of the fanbase. You have these idiots carrying on about, "Oh, look how we look in the media and to other fanbases. If we don't get Jimbo, I'd rather Miles stay".
Really? Really? He has to go now! Not just because he was railroaded in the media, but because he has become complacent and refuses to change his ways. We cannot keep him one more minute past December. He actually needs to be gone within the week after TAMU. We need change immediately. A new direction. Status Quo will complete the turn into just better than the 90s. Let's at least try to steer the damn ship away from danger...okay?

I think a big piece also has been the number of early departures for the NFL. That is a killer.

I would like to thank Joe Alleva, boosters, and a miserable fan base for sending our program back to the dark ages.

It unravelled so quickly, but it's trending down. Too bad, but this is the type of heat you should expect when you negotiate a new deal every time you have a good season.

here's the problem guys, (1.-les miles hates letting his OC'S have complete control of the offense, calling the plays, and according to a few players he often changed the plays at the line of scrimmage and changed the game plan before a game. (2- his lack of discipline with this team; the team has the highest penalties in the SEC. (3- not recruiting PROSTYLE QB, NOT SINCE REALLY MATT FLYNN HAS HE HAD A solid qb to manage and lead the offense, its a shame, when matt Flynn was here he never had to look to the sideline to change the play more than halve the time. now you got every QB looking to the sideline for the change of the play. now that would tell you how much control of play calling les miles has in a game.

Could it be that guys were leaving early for the NFL because they weren't learning anything here? I dobt have stats but I surely see a lot of seniors on the field for Bama and tOSU. Why do they stay?
Why do marginal (draft pitential) players leave early and not even get drafted or drafted low?
A good coach keeps players. You need senior leadership to win titles.
You give me and Chef John Folse the same top ingredients to make gumbo, and after you eat both you'll understand my analogy.
Doing Les with more.

I stopped reading when you started to bitch about Chavis. Chavis's only faults for losses were probably the Georgia 2013 game(I'm sure there were a few more)
Chavis kept Miles employed for a long long time.
People freak out about Chavis blowing games---> a competent offensive minded coach can close out a 4th quarter lead. Les couldn't do that.
I agree. It's really a lot to ask of a DC. Hard to expect to beat Bama by scoring 13 pts.
