Two things are admitted up front in evaluating JLee

1) He had an awful year as the starter in his freshman year. Pick-6's and an awful Defense both did him in.
2) He also struggled in his limited time in 2009, where he was trying to redeem himself behind a God-awful Offensive line with no running game support.

In addition, I would contend that he threw off his back feet far too many times, and the results showed that he did.

No one is arguing these things are not true.

So....He struggled in the tough SEC as a freshman and behind a terrible OLine as a Sophomore.

Now, why should he play at this juncture in 2010?

1) He has paid his dues and been relegated to backup for over a year.
2) As such, he has lots of observation time on the sideline.
3) He had the best Spring in 2010 by nearly every account
4) He was by far better in the Spring Game.
5) He had the better Fall camp by most accounts
6) He has a very fast release and a strong arm (not that JJ does not have a strong arm also, but JJ's release is very slow and winding). See the one-pass miracle to Randle last night
7) JJ is struggling by any reasonable account in 2010 and his growth is stunted and arguably he has regreesed.
8) JLee can stretch the field (now that we have good OLine pass protection) to set up the running attack.
9) We need him to get in a groove to make a run at the SEC, so now is the time.
10) The players/receivers are reported to want him at the helm (at least some, and maybe most)
11) He has the most upside of our current options.

Yes, his past is conceded as poor. Let's put that in the past. Had JJ shown meritable performance, things would have been different, but at this point there is no real evidence or rational to continue to run him out there.

JJ is a wonderful young man by all accounts. JJ will and should add to the LSU team as the year progresses. Even if JLee comes in and sets the world on fire, I'd like to see JJ come in and add to the team, because he can contribute. Watching from the sideline will give him some valuable perspective.

But there is a time for everything, and it is now time for Lee

Geaux JLee, Geaux JJ, Geaux Tigers!

Difference is this is the year he was supposed to start playing anyways, not his redshirt freshman year when he was thrown into the fire.

I agree. JJ vs. J. Lee = Regressing vs. Progressing

I'd even argue that Jefferson seems to already have hit his ceiling, while Lee still shows the promise of growth.

I suspect we'll need both by the end of the year. The SEC is tough on quarterbacks....nice to know we have 'options'.

JJ or Lee, doesn't matter to me as long as they win. Might as well give Lee a try with what I've seen so far from JJ. Maybe there'll be an improvement, maybe not. Doesn't hurt to try. A lot of big games coming up and LSU needs to have the best man in for the job.

The fundamentals that JJ is missing on, are reason enough to bring in JL. In practice, JL is crisp, and JJ is waaay off target. It's been the same at game speed this year as well.

The only excuse to keep JL out of games is the fact that he has only thrown one pass. That's also the exact same reason to get him in the game more. He needs more playing time, regardless.

even though that could be said for either JL or JJ lol. ive never seen JL in a groove also. plus i dont know if spring games are all that reliable. we will all put our faith in LES MILES to make the right decision now

one completion doesn't mean anything. But give him a hot late in a game and see what he can do. I don't want to throw the Moo state game seeing if J Lee has come around. Do you?

Honestly, I have less concern for this than to see what JJ will show up. If the bad JJ shows up, we may dig a hole we can't get out of, as Mullens is a smart schemer and will be ready for us. If we thrown JLee at Moo State, they will be surprised (somewhat anyway) and their scheme will be perturbed in comparison to what they are already expecting from JJ.

Reminds me of the joke they told about the University of Houston basketball coach years ago. Can't remember his name right now - coach of the "PhiSlammaJama" team. He had a penchant for never making substitutes and someone said:

"Coach had to finish the game with only four players after one fouled out because he didn't have anyone on the bench with any experience."

Guy Lewis - the coach's name

I agree we need both qbs to make a run. We needed two in 07. MSU is a perfect game for him to come in. We know msu isnt going to be a push over so people cant say oh it was vandy. But they are also not sec champion material. And it's a home game. If he plays well he gets support from the fanbase and maybe just maybe his confidence will soar.

I'm with you on your apaton. Give bailey a shot. why not? everyone is calling for Lee based off of basically 1 throw. I like Lee and maybe he has overcome his mental demons. But what would be so bad about giving Bailey a little PT?
