I don't understand how LSU can be #3. shouldn't we have the best computer ranking since we've played the toughest schedule?

We're number one in the Harris Poll and 2 in the Coaches poll, plus we have the hardest schedule to date...so I'm not sure why the rankings moved us down to third.

there's a lot of early season weirdness in the computers. It'll balance out as they get more data to work with.

they dropped it because SoS is redundant with computer polls

It's in some of the computer polls, so I would think we would have a high computer ranking...but I guess not.

right now bama has two real quality wins (per computers), penn state and arkansas
right now lsu also has two: oregon and wvu

most of the computers have arkansas > oregon and psu > wvu so that makes bama's schedule look a lot better than lsu's

add in the fact that they have vandy vs. our moo state (vandy looks better in the computers right now), and bama's #1 computer ranking is a lot more clear

by the end of the season, I suspect Oregon and WVU will climb all the computer polls, so our SoS will catch up as we play all the same SEC West teams that Bama does.

I'm not looking up Penn State's record right now, but I know Vandy has a couple of loses. Oregon and West Virginia both only have one loss, to us, and are leading their conferences. Doesn't seem equal to me, so maybe you can explain your thoughts?

I thought vandy was 4-1 but they are 3-2. I corrected my post

I thought that was margin of victory.

I thought "quality wins" referred to wins against top 10 teams.

they've eliminated both as an individual component

right now the bcs is pretty simple

it's basically the average of Coaches votes, Harris votes, and Computer score, where the computer score is the average of 6 computer polls with the high/low tossed out.

Keep in mind the BCS factors in how close the rankings are too.

It isn't like each rank has an absolute value attached to it.

And how you define hardest schedule? Not even all of the computers agree on that point, and why the highest and lowest values are thown out in the average.

BTW, only one computer poll has us listed as #1. Combined with how close Oklahoma is to Bama, that is why we dropped to 3.

Right.

There is a reason why they wait so long to start counting the BCS ranking.

And why I am not a huge pan of the people who makes these projected polls, only to have people treat it as official and bitch at the BCS for the results.

Realize that most of these computer scores are a joke until the end of the year, some always are.

Bama's schedule is boosted by the fact that they've played 6 FBS teams. LSU has played 5.

LSU's schedule has clearly been tougher to anyone with a brain, but not to computers that don't take things other than records into account.

Hell, last week Oregon wasn't even in the top 25 in most, if not any, of the computers. That alone shows how bogus they can be.

It will work itself out though.
