You guys are losing 7 starters.

Armatures still seem to value the term "starters." This reminds me of the conversation about Miss State going into this year... how they couldn't be good because they "lost all those starters." Well, LSU was lucky to beat that team with almost "no returning starters."

Modern football doesn't have "starters," it has "packages." If a "starter" is ... say ... in the heavy DL package against a spread team that throws 60 times a game he may not see the field during a particular game.

The nickle DB may play more plays than a "starting" LB. I laugh when I see someone build a case based on "starters." The term just doesn't tell much of a story today.

But what will be epic is when Les finally has the more experienced, talented team and a young Bama team completes the final minute of the game and pulls the upset.

Bobby Knight:

"I was worried about losing until I looked down the floor and saw Dale Brown. Then I knew we had a chance."

Nick Saban:

"I was worried about losing until I looked across the field and saw Les Miles. Then I knew we would win."

50/50.

Lost OT in 2008, beat them in 2010, lost last second 2012, lost OT in 2014.

Honestly. We could easily be on a 3 game home winning streak. We aren't. But could be.

So every other year we could beat them, but don't. Nice take.

Really!! Next year won't be any different than the past 5 years, and once again some will be saying wait until next year.......
And, Les will still be a nice guy who recruits well and has a want to do better, etc....

It doesn't work that way and that's been the big mistake all along. You can't just look at a roster and say you should beat anyone. You can think you have a good shot, but that's about it. Weather, injuries, etc. still play a part in all of it.

UA gets gutted after this season on defense. Although we only had 3 returning starters on Offense this season.

Kelly C, OJ Howard TE, and Henry RB. And the juniors, underclassmen stepped up pretty good and the offensive line gelled but not before they were shredded by Ole Miss.

LSU has a legitimate shot at beating Bama next year, esp if we don't find A QB and we don't have a Heisman caliber waiting in line at RB. Scarborough has looked OK in mop up duty but not cut from the same cloth as Ingram, Richardson, Lacy, and Henry. WRs will be our strongest/deepest skill position but you have to have someone to get the ball to them and a RB to keep the Safeties honest. This maybe second only to Saban's first season as far as having a poor W/L record.

Hopefully I'm wrong and we just "reload", but that cliche is easier said than done. Esp considering this class coming in looks full of OL and a few DL and not a lot of skill players (based on my very limited research as I don't follow recruiting hardcore like a lot of posters here).
