The Ryan P effect is still looming large over LSU. Jefferson is coming along but has a huge learning curse. He is looking off the deep receiver too quick. If the key deep receiver is covered, he tends to immediately check down to the short receiver. In the past three games, there have been key plays where another deep receiver is open, yet Jefferson either passes (forces at times) to the primary or hits the short guy.

If Ryan P was still here, as a SENIOR, you bet it would be all different.

Plus, under Crowton's scheme, there are several formations to know along with the playes and options with each formation. While the O-line is playing average, I believe it makes their job tougher having a QB doing unexpected things.

Jefferson is still trying to figure out coverages and blitz packages. Where he is supposed to move to on certain blitzes and where he actually does move makes the O-line look worse.

Then you have the passing game. What helped our running game so much last year was the THREAT that Lee would throw down field, either long or mid-field. Crowton was still running the full offense with Lee. Yea, it cost us several INT TDs, but the other team had to respect the play still. I mean, if they just loaded 8 in the box and said "Throw it Lee", he would and often did for success. It is when they dropped those LBs into coverage that caused Lee the problems. Throw in some throwing mechanics and a few minor factors and yucko.

It appears they are not letting Jefferson make the same mistakes...or Crowton is not making the same mistake. Any fan can see the progress of Jefferson so far this year. They are adding elements to the offensive scheme, finally getting the deep and mid range passing plays into the mix. I believe they want Jefferson to start looking past the primary deep receiver.

Look at Miss St. game on tape. Often, State had eight guys near the LOS and in the middle of the field, DARING LSU to run its power play. Until Jefferson can really start to consistently hit the deep and middle patterns, teams will load up on the run. It is very hard for 5 Oline + 1 TE to run against 5 defensive players shooting the gaps and the other 3 cleaning up.

I am telling you, you get those LBs and safeties away from the line, MAKE them respect the pass, then the running game will come. Then the defense will play less plays. A fresh defense in the four quarter will allow us to be more aggressive. It all builds one one another.

Presently, the LSU offense is running on one foot. Eventually, Miles/Crowton are going to have to let Jefferson loose. It may turn out another Lee situation, where he has to learn the hard way or it make work out that by spoon feeding him, he has enough experience to take on the meat of the SEC schedule.
