Miles isn't capable of overcoming a bad offensive line, nor should he be rewarded for overcoming a bad offensive line in year 12. This was supposed to be the year.

I agree but do really think 10-2 gets him fired after what we saw last year? I'm not sure it will.

Bottoming out is Curley Hallman.

Our program, regardless of record this season, is in fantastic shape for a replacement.

This season we have at least 3 more losses in us due solely to our OL. It's an abomination. Jacksonville State bullied them around and there are 4 very good - elite DLs in the SEC West.

All this means that the nearly 8 year QB draught (aside from Zach Mett) are behind us. McMillan, Etling and Scott all seem like solid cerebral QB's with adequate-or-strong wheels.

We had good qb play in 2009 and 2011.

JJ'S 2009 season is one of the 10-12 best seasons in lsu history.

Jlee/JJ combo of 2011 produced 20 passing tds-4 ints both had a completion %above 60 and both had qb rating over 138.
Thats good qb play.

Fortunately after watching two games I don't think it's realistic that this team is winning 10 games. Sadly I think 8 games is pushing it. Unless Etling really plays lights out. Even then we still have the Miles factor.

What? Where are you getting 5 losses?

Bama and who else?

Rick from what I have seen.

MSU- Toss up at home
Aub- Toss up
Fla- Toss up
Mizzou- W
Ole Miss- Toss up at home
Bama- L
Ark. - Toss up
aTm- Toss up

So that's 5 toss ups that can go either way. And it's not QB play for me it's how bad the line has looked. And we are still giving up big plays in the passing game and runs up the middle. I expect the defense to keep getting better. The offensive line appears to be a talent issue.

I think it will be incredibly hard for Miles to return to his old ways now. NOT IMPOSSIBLE, but very tough.

You must've not watched the second half.

Yeah, who knows? They are 20 year old kids. They might respond and have a great season, or they might tank badly and have a losing season. It is very fragile right now.

I've been a Les Miles supporter all the way. I'm still cautiously optimistic. But I don't think we should keep him with 10 wins. If he can't win the SEC this year he surely won't next year with all the defections to the NFL we will have.

but the OL is an even more glaring one

Boutte back with something to prove. KJ needs to be quality depth. The line had lots of changes and with Harris, they were asked to do too many things perfectly, and they looked bad trying. Now we get a good test, but not Bama level, against Miss State. Plays out well, and now we can see them starting to gel, especially if Cam/Les and Etling are able to look reasonably similar to the "2nd QTR" version we saw last week. I did say reasonably similar, not exactly, cause we can't expect that to be the reference, and because while they had decent talent, Jax State is not Moo State.

Well hopefully the line looks better bow that they have a qb that has some pocket awareness( from the small sample size we have seen).

i think 3-4 losses sounds a bit more realistic than 5.

other than bama, teams that can control the LOS against this particular LSU team have a better chance of winning than previous years.

Auburn's got a really nice DL, UF seems to have figured out their QB problem, Arkansas is a better version of themselves against LSU all the damn time it seems...and of course Bama.

that gets us back to the questions that we posed last year after A&M; which was whether or not it was at least an SEC title year or bust kind of season for Miles.

I think we're aligned in that answer, rick...at least I think we are.

He did what every good coach does wheb the game is won against an inferior team. He ran the ball and ran deep routes. There is zero reasons for us to put tendencies and aggressive plays on tape for sec dc. Throwing the ball against JSU does nothing for our qb.

You have posters saying the win and 2nd qrtr means nothing because its JSU but yet get mad because we went basic in the 2nd half because our qb needs reps. It cant be both.

You have posters bitching about predictability and then get mad when we dont run aggressive plays against inferior teams when the game is already won.
