It's not about hurt feelings.

It's about having self respect and consideration of others who don't want to explain to their kids what sucking dick means. That applies to hearing vulgarities over the TV broadcasts.

I can clearly hear what is chanted by students all the way in the northeast corner and on the west side where I have sat for recent games.

Don't throw them out. That's too difficult.

Collect their student IDs right then (they needed them for entrance) and make them appear before the Dean of Students.

Oh yeah, that's a recipe for total obedience.

In short, don't sit on the end of the row or we might take your student ID for yelling profanity!

In the day of the Internet, they will find out everything earlier than you did. This is a fact.

Cursing is part of the sporting environment -- right or wrong, it isn't going anywhere.

You sound like a consultant with great pie-in-the-sky ideas but with no eye for practicality.

Marshalls are going to need to throw out 15,000 students at a time. I am sure that will go over super well.

I agree, it isn't practical or realistic, but fact is there are only a few ways to approach this.

1) Punish the students in some way (removal from the game/slowly shrinking the student and frat sections).

2) Remove the offending songs and replace them with others, but this doesn't really work. Idiotic students will just continue to act like idiots.

3) Remove the band outside of halftime (hurts everyone including the band). Piped in music

4) Do nothing, and watch the students continue to embarrass the university.

Let me say that I am not against chants or the like. I didn't really think the "Assholes" cheer during Tiger Rant was that big of a deal. It's the extremity of "Suck a Tiger's D*** Bitch" that is the problem. It's not creative. It's not funny or cool. It's just utterly stupid and the student sections insistence on turning this into some type of battle with the admins is pathetic.

There is literally no way to stop it actively other than getting rid of the students in its entirety. If they want to yell vulgarity, then it is going to happen.

Or, you approach it conversely and you just play everything so that it isn't such a big deal when Neck is played or All of the Lights or any other song. By emphasizing any song where STTDB is played, the university just continues the perpetual spotlight to an activity that it hopes will cease.

Less spotlight = less likely to continue/be emphasized. A passive defense, if you will.

I agree with this approach as an alternative honestly. That and coupling it with a bunch of other students that find it idiotic chanting other things might help.

Another thing is simply ask the broadcaster's to move their microphones away from the student section.

I was stating what options were, not they i supported them. It's the issue with this problem. The students are ruining it for everyone, but LSU has to find a solution.

I mean hell, our students cared more about playing with balloons in the stands during plays then cheering.

These students are nothing like the rabid fans when I was at LSU.

Then, people will bitch because all they hear on TV is the other teams band...and how quiet the rest of the stadium is.

If the fricking students want the world to know how rabid they are, and how great they are as fans, then they need to clean the vulgarity up so the networks will put the microphones back by the student section. It is very simple.

Agreed, but this student section is not the LSU of lore. It hasn't been in like 7 years.

Probably the best summary I have seen. So why do the students insist on battling the university? You THINK you are winning....but you really aren't. We all are losing.

I was there for parts of the 1990s too, and students actually wanted to cheer the team. It was mostly about that and not about being "noticed" or "cool". That's why I laugh at these idiots claiming their "love" for LSU. Friggin balloons. Yup, hardcore football fans there.

Blah blah blah "my student section in 1984, 1972, 1994, 2001, 1968, etc" was so much better than students today.

Do you realize that this is the worst coubter argument in the world?

LSU having to do what it has to do:

Treat 20 year olds that act like children, like....well, children.

The ones that say to themselves "hey, look at me/us! We are part of something funny and big! But THEY took it away from me."

True, fans have been vulgar before, but the university doesn't have to put up with immaturity in any way. So take the songs away until the little shits get it....which they never may.

Do you think the university will sacrifice class for tradition (a tradition which was overtaken by perversion)?

I was a student for 6 years at LSU, but had family and worked a ton of games in the 90's as well. The student section back then was one of the best I've seen in 30 years because despite how bad we were, the students were there, loud as heck and actually paid attention to the game.

More recent students simply go to a game to get plastered and yell out obscenities. They could care less what is actually going on during the games at times. They try to make the games about them rather than the team.

The chant is lame but 15,000 students yelling and full of group think don't give a crap how lame you think it is. You just provide motivation and appear out of touch / sensitive.
