Which schools do you see as the main competition to LSU for a new HC at the end of the season?

Send him a blank check

He's still only getting like 4 a year

We can easily make that 5-7

Probably, if Houston does what everyone predicts them to, he'll have his pick of the litter of jobs.

LSU boosters have the money to do that, but the school isn't going to do it. Its sad but true we could open up and get most coaches but we wont.

Herman will not be at Houston next year.

They returned a TON of players this year that are gone next year and he knows his stock will never be higher. He is not a stupid guy, in fact the exact opposite.

There will be 3-4 top programs offering him 5-6+ after he wins 11 games this year.

All depends what Texas does this year. I think they are the only school that outbid LSU for Herman. AM maybe could but I think LSU could still pull Herman from them. If Texas has a bad year and we both go after Herman it would be a tuff pull. Would be the best thing for Herman though. Could you imagine what his agent could get him if LSU and Texas had a bidding war.

Somebody will get Herman. He will likely run the table and miss the playoffs and say he is leaving to go to a school where he can win a championship.

The timing would be perfect this year provided that Texas does enough to keep Strong. Outside of that, there shouldn't be any openings more attractive than LSU.

The biggest obstacles would be King, Aleva, and the movers and shakers that would rather first go after a Fisher/Stoops/Patterson type guy rather than use their brain and get a guy who is the future of college football rather than its recent past.

No this year is a better shot. Last year was his first year at houston. No coach is going to leave after his first year. Even if Houston gets in big 12, lsu is still a much better job.

Houston may be in the Big 12 next year and they have shown they are willing to pay him. If he wins out and goes to the playoff, good chance he stays at Houston. I'm not saying it's impossible, but I wouldn't be surprised if he wants to stay put.

Was thinking about this a little while ago and I don't think so and here's why...

As much as I and a few others wanted Miles gone last year and Herman to be his replacement, the admin was never going to pursue him. If we're to believe certain stories, and I think they're very plausible, Jimbo was pretty much a done deal until the 11th hour fiasco. Fisher was the ONLY coach in the equation.

Now, if this season goes down the toilet, which I think is somewhat likely, Miles can be fired and just one year later, Herman should rightly be at the top of the list. I think he will be too. So when looking at it that way, I think this year just may be the better chance for him to wind up in purple and gold.

The absolute CRITICAL element is how Texas' season goes, and secondarily, how A&M's season goes too. I'm a big Longhorn fan tonight and going forward. Go Aggies as well.

After perusing the USC boards last night, you can chalk up the Trojans as being a major competitor for Herman. He's going to make massive bank with that many schools competing.

If he makes the playoffs this year with UH, why would he go somewhere where the road is much tougher. All he as to do is schedule a power 5 team for a marquee OOC matchup, run the table in AAC and he's in the final 4.

Well if that is actually a factor then we have to pull for them to stumble somewhere along the line this year. One loss and they do not get in.

Not sure I agree with the premise though. Even if they get in, LSU is a MUCH better job than Houston. MUCH more prestige involved. You really think if he gets Houston to the playoffs he'll be some kind of lifer there? No fricking way.
