I've seen two post crediting Johnny Robinson credit with Cannon on the fourth down stop. But my memory was that it was Warren Rabb, the White Team QB, and not JR.

Hey "big wheel" was it on ESPN? You must have meant you listened on radio. Only way LSU was on TV in those days was if they made a bowl game and there were only four bowl games, Rose, Cotton, Sugar and Orange.

I was 11 years old and listened to the game in Nawlins on the living room floor waiting for late trick or treaters. Had a tablet with a football field drawn on the top page. The roar was so loud during the return I didn't know WHAT was happening.

The game wasn't actually on TV, just radio.

I was wondering about that, maybe it was just blacked out in our area, person in the military claimed to have watched it. Black out games were very common back then.

Several things come to mind, one being Johnny Vaught had the Rebs punting on first down most of the second half,
Wait, wtf? Are you serious?

What kind of sense does that make? I'm not saying you're lying, bc I believe you. I just think it goes against everything that is football and even if your de is that good, why would a coach do that?

Listened on radio. About midfield you couldn't hear what happened. Not until a few seconds after Cannon scored then I heard Billy Cannon, great all-american and the rest is history.

how intense was the '79 USC game

Was at that game. The refs truly took that game away from the Tigers. On the go ahead drive USC got a first down on a ghostly facemask penalty but on that play the only thing everyone saw was the right tackle stand right before the snap and it was not called. USC scored to go ahead.

The crowd was deafening. Couldn't hear might Bro in law right next to me.
