Such a great memory and as I recall, the Miami reliever had not given up a run all year( maybe wrong on that but don't think so).

loved the way all of the infielders collapsed, as if Chris Kyle was in the stands

quote:

Morrison went 4-2 with 14 saves and a 1.68 ERA as a college freshman at Miami, with 88 strikeouts in 59 innings. Baseball America named him a second-team All-American behind Kris Benson, Seth Greisinger, Braden Looper, Ed Yarnall and Evan Thomas. He tied for second in NCAA Division I in saves. In his most important moment, though, he fell short. With one on and two outs in the 9th inning of the 1996 College World Series, Morrison tossed a curveball that Warren Morris hammered over the wall to blow Miami's Series hopes and give LSU the title instead. It would be one of the most remembered home runs in college baseball in the 20th Century.

He gave up 4 earned in the CWS final, so with the 1.68 ERA he had previously given up 7 runs in 57 innings. He had given up some runs, but he was still pretty damn good though.

ETA: Here's a pretty good ESPN article on the game and it states what happened to the bat and ball. LINK

quote:

After the game, the Hurricanes drifted to their locker room, while LSU celebrated and Warren Morris did interviews. The fan who caught the home run ball came out onto the field and handed it to Morris, saying all he wanted in return was an autographed ball. Warren keeps the ball at his home. The bat, he donated to LSU.

I have Mahtook's 2nd ever HR ball he hit over the scoreboard

You want him to sign it, or do maybe you want to give it back to him? Dude would get a kick out of it, either way. Let me know and we can make that happen.

I remember the bomb over the scoreboard that you got but didn't remember it was his 2nd ever.

I have the only foul ball that Terry Belle ever hit that hit a tree outside the Box and ricocheted off my sister.

I tried to get it back to him through my uncle who said he knew his parents but that never came through. But yea id be willing to give to back to him.

Cool. Just remind me during football season at some point and we'll take care of it.

CSB: I caught a foul ball from him at a Pirates vs. Marlins game about 12-13 years ago. He must have been a rookie.

me too, but i was out back drinking beer listening on the radio. It was a Tuesday night game i believe.

also one game that year there was an opponent HR that i got and threw it back over the bleachers and fence. supposedly it landed on the dirt in the infield and hawthorne made a comment on the radio about who he the arm to throw it that far. I didnt hear it i was just told about it.
