I like it. I would use Poche as a lefty arm out of the pen all tourney long. That's really all this pitching staff is missing.

Team would not be at Omaha without Poche. He's the only pitcher to win 9 or more games each season at LSU, he's about to get paid to play baseball, he just graduated from LSU, and he's been dating a Saintsation. His mentality is strong, real frickin strong.

Major kudos to CPM if he does in fact make the call to pitch Walker in game 2. At this point, he seems to be our second best pitcher, but it still has to be a difficult decision to not start Poche.

He will still be in a lose/lose situation with some of his critics here though. If LSU doesn't win, there will be 20 threads saying that he should have started Poche.

The comment about arm soreness makes me a bit uneasy though.

So we spent how many seasons bitching about not having that third starter. And now that we do, we want to go back to only having 2?

Pm making the right decision. Walker is our best chance in game 2. I think they mean assuming walkers bp goes well tomorrow, poche will be used in relief in the game saturday if needed. If he is used only there, then he could start for us either wednesday or friday

Of course if we win our first two, Lange could conceivably come back and start Game 3. He did that in 09 with Ranaudo.

Just looked back to check this, Renaudo only pitched 3 1/3 innings in his first start in Omaha that year. Austin Ross also pitched in that game and game 3. So, Mainieri used two of his year long starters twice in the same game. (Granted, Coleman had that strange closer/starter role all season...)

Pitching rotation should be:

Saturday- Lange
Monday- Walker

if win both:
Friday-Lange

if we lose one of first two:
Wednesday- Poche
Friday- Lange
Saturday- Walker

Poche to bullpen? Wouldn't he start game 3

Depends win Sunday and Monday you don't play again until Friday. Could possibly com back with Lange if need be or Poche if he doesn't pitch game 2.

I guess that would depend on if CPM felt comfortable throwing Walker again in the Saturday if needed game. If he plans to throw Walker on Monday and then Saturday (if needed), then Lange has plenty of rest between the Saturday and Friday start.

If he feels that Walker can't come back that quickly, then throw Poche Friday and have Lange if needed for Saturday.

Let's just hope we are in that great of a position.

Assuming we win games 1 and 2 that would put game 3 on Friday right?

Fact is, Walker would have been perfect against FSU (as the lead the nation in walks)

Will be very curious to see how disciplined they are against Lange's curveball in the dirt or off the plate. He gets lots of swings and misses on that pitch, which often is NOT a strike.

Yes. The days our bracket plays are:

Saturday
Monday
Wednesday (loser's bracket)
Friday
Saturday (if necessary)

They're very patient at that plate. I think they are near the tops in the nation in walks drawn.

If we win the first 2 games game 3 will be on Friday so Lange could definitely start, unless you want to save him for game 1 of championship series which would start on Monday.

I just hope the "arm soreness" isn't going to be used as the built in excuse for throwing Poche in game two.

If we go 2-0 and not use Poche out of the pen for either of those two, then he definitely starts the third game.

If he wins, you go Lange-Walker-Poche for the championship series

If he loses, you pitch Lange in the elimination game, then if you win that, you go Walker-Poche-Lange in the championship series.

So even if Lange is available for that 3rd game Friday you still go with Poche just because he hasn't pitched yet?

I think the reason he is going with walker game 2 is (assuming we win game 1)
1)less stress. Not an elimination game for a freshman
2)walker hasn't pitched since regionals and wants to get him out there ASAP
3)walker has been the better pitcher (between Poche and him) the last month. Which gives us the better chance in beating Oregon State

Will be interesting if he starts walker regardless of game 1 outcome
