With the first game of the year being right around the corner and at a far away destination. It made me think back to VT '02. Was anyone on here there for the Fri. night before the game when LSU fans practically took over Blacksburg and they had to call in the State Police to prevent a riot??

I wasn't but I player soccer with some people who were going to Tech that year. They still talk about it and think Cajuns are crazy drunkards.

They are, of course, correct.

Oh yes. That was one of the best friday nights and tailgating days I remember. Those Virginians had no idea what was headed their way. Too bad the game didn't go as well.

As I recall, we drank the entire town dry and Abita brought an 18 wheeler full of beer up to Blacksburg and that got emptied within a few hours too.

Hands down the best away game experience I have ever been to. It sucks Saban's team got handled, though. It probably had little to do with the fact that about 50 LSU fans stood outside an open door to the VT lockerroom chanting tigerbait and "high school stadium" about 30 min before kickoff.

I thought we 3 and outed them, took the punt back for a TD and had it called back for holding.

I was there too but staying in Roanoke. We were back at the hotel before the "riot". I think the Hokie mascot was riding on a convertible and some of the LSU fans started messing with him. It turned into a shouting match with opposing fans on each side of the street.

The front page of the Roanoke Times was the police in riot gear. The cheif of police (or something) was quoted under the photo saying something to the effect that after 30 years in law enforcement he had never seen anything like those LSU fans. I don't remember the exact quote, but I used to have the picture and caption hanging on my cubicle at work. It was priceless

Only thing I remember about that game is how VTech screwed up. LSU was supposed to play VTech as there first game of the year. So was VTech. But the Hokies went ahead and behind LSU's back scheduled Ark St the week before. Then in 2004 VTech was supposed to come to Baton rouge, but they backed out. They played USC instead and we got Oregon St.

Do I think VTech having a tuneup game before LSU is the reason LSU got creamed 26-8? No. But it was a cheap move by VTech.

LSU got revenge in 07 when VTech finally came to LSU and got slaughtered 48-7.

This is the only thing I remember about that game.

Remember it well. We were the first motorhome there Friday afternoon and they thought we were crazy being there for a Sunday game. They didnt see the invasion of motorhomes coming at all. Friday night was something else, after the trouble downtown then they started pickin on the motorhomes. Mostly they were hittin golf balls from the golf course in the dark hitting the motorohomes and stole my ice chest of beer. The nerve .After the game the Blacksburg police told us we had to leave now because they could not guarantee our saftety when the trouble started in parking lot when a Pissed off LSU fan kicked VT punks butt! The 07 beatdown was so sweet. I also remember the LSU fan that drives around in tiger car sittin on sidewalk in cuffs being arrested probaly for dwi
