there’s really nothing after Nuss. They badly need a transfer stopgap next year and some better QB recruiting
We don’t know that. Collins has tools to be good. Big arm, mobile, ckean up his delivery a smidge and he is as good as anyone you would bring in at this point in portal announcements

Realistically we could say that about any recruit we take that hasn’t taken a snap yet. Arky was Collins’ only other SEC offer, so we are putting all of our eggs in that kind of basket if we don’t get underwood or get a portal guy.

Apparently that’s what they have been doing. Burrow…Daniels…

Given the misses in the SEC I would put little stock in it, he was offered by Florida State and Oregon. They have two of the top five QBs in the country this year.

You dont have but two baskets at this point, and Collins will be the second one no matter what if you take a portal guy or if it is Nuss.

If a cant miss dude comes along in the portal, maybe you look at it that way, but that guy isnt in it now.

I am not sure why Nuss needs to prove himself. He has done it over the last 2 years. He was outstanding agains Georgia in the SEC championship game and he was good in the bowl game. He has been playing behind a QB that will win the Heisman. He would have likely been the starter for just about every other SEC team, outside of Georgia.

Yea in relief or due to injury. He's shown flashes that I've enjoyed, but then he makes boneheaded plays and resorts to bad habit like throwing off his back foot. Nothing wrong with being aggressive and taking shots, but you gotta be smart about it. You also can't forget your fundamentals when the pressure is on. I would like to see how he responds to being the guy. It was different this year obviously because he knew Jayden was the starter, but going into next year this is his team. However, what will his mindset be? There's nothing wrong with a little challenge for the spot.

Kelly is thinking about what would be best for the team and that it would serve him better with an experienced QB in the fold while developing your young QBs and not throwing them into the fire before they're ready. He just wants to be prepared for any possibility. Nuss has been loyal to the program and that's taken into consideration, but he still has to earn it. And if he's the starter (which I assume he will be), he'll be better for it.

You can always go get a portal guy next year if you miss on Underwood. He's not the only 2025 QB we are in it for though.

I think Nuss will be GREAT next season. Knows the playbook and the players and playing behind a talented offensive line. Not too mention he’s a QB coach’s kid with great physical talent.
But someone like that Bama player decides to put him in concussion protocol who’s #2? Redshirt freshman Ricky Collins.
Better take that transfer. Could save the season.

This happened at Ole Miss with Jaxon Dart and Spencer Sanders.

Dart was the only scholarship QB they had on the roster at the end of the 2022 season. They literally had no choice but to sign QBs in the portal. Luke Altmyer was their backup last year and he transferred to Illinois. That left them with Dart and 3 walk-ons. We'll have Nussmeier, Collins, a high 4 star commit true freshman, and potentially the #1 QB in the country coming in the following year.

People say, "well what if Nussmeier gets hurt." Almost every team in the country is screwed if their starter gets hurt.

It can’t hurt to bring in a transfer for depth. There were some transfers last year that were starters at their previous programs and weren’t this year. People tend to overlook how good Nuss can be and still wouldn’t have been able to beat JD
Collins has loads of talent and should develop, hopefully ready for 2025 because
Nuss has such a good year in 2024.

Yeah I just worry about Nuss getting hurt. A decent 2 year guy would be nice

At this point, LSU coaches know what they have in Nuss. He's been in the program a couple of years and they've seen him in countless practices and a few games. I wouldn't be surprised to see them grab a veteran qb because the qbs on the roster currently really lack playing experience.

My sauces say that Collins will be shown the door... if that's true, we will need a transfer QB.

They’re going to show a true freshman Elite 11 QB the door? Doubtful

It’s going to be hard for anyone to come in and look better than Nuss. If nothing else because he has been in the system for 2 years and at LSU for 3. Assuming he has talent to go with that, which we have seen at times, he will be very hard to beat out. Just my opinion. I am all for bringing in competition as long as it isn’t promised a starting role.

Collins elite? Maybe for the East Baton Rouge Parish Schools, but not nationwide.

And when Nuss gets a "core" injury or slips and breaks his arm, you're comfortable rolling with Rickie Collins for the rest of the season? Madness.

Madness? Teams do it all the time.

Collins will have the advantage over the newcomer with his familiarity with Denbrock's system, plus the receiver corps. He needs PT. He won't get it if a new guy comes in and is made #2 right away.

Then you're gonna have a guy in the system going into his 3rd year with little to no experience. THAT is madness.

You can't mortgage the future for short term gain.
