After five weeks of stability at the top spot in the College Football Computer Composite rankings, the former BCS computers have a new No. 1 team for the second consecutive week. LSU!

To me the BCS is much more fair than a freaking committee where politics can have more bias/influence.

All they had to do was take the top 4 teams from the BCS.. No need for anything else..

Of course teams are always going to feel left out, but it's still better than 2 and no need to expand it to some ridiculous number.

I find 4 team playoff is perfect for college football and makes the season really mean something. I just wish they had kept the BCS.

The BCS is our friend, whereas the media likes to constantly put us down for less passing than all these teams that score a ton of points, but give up a ton of points. Being able to be physical in the run gun and stopping the run should mean more.

I always thought the BCS system should have been used to choose what teams made the 4 team playoff, instead of a committee room of people.

It's just so much more practical.

Do these people truly devote enough time to watching enough of the games every single week?

Why would they really want this kind of responsibility after so long..

I don't know. Last season worked out okay, but I just wonder about them keeping it over the seasons..

Wasn't Archie originally on it and dropped out?

Anyone who hated on the BCS was a complete idiot. It is by far the best way to rank and compare teams that play totally different schedules.

The plus 1 model in the BCS would have been perfect. 4 is the perfect number, but the committee was a ridiculous decision that is mainly to ensure that there will continue to be controversy so they can eventually expand to 8.

The McNeese game getting cancelled is helping the computer rankings. If you add a hypothetical game against the 103rd ranked team in the Colley rankings, LSU's score goes down:

Hypothetical Results

Teams with added results appear in green fields; teams with removed results appear in red fields.

current hypothetical
rank team record rating rank team record rating
1. Utah (6-0) 0.97109 1. Utah (6-0) 0.97112
2. LSU (6-0) 0.92870 2. LSU (7-0) 0.91938

An unhealthy situation was emerging as a result of the BCS. SEC teams were dominating. It was fair, but it was not good for the game. The committee is a better, albeit less fair, solution. Shitty teams from popular northeast, midwest, and western locales, which play weak competition, were being eliminated by the BCS. Now they'll get in the tournament and get waxed. It'll bring in more fans and more money.

Said this forever. No clue why we still don't have the BCS.

I mean it literally stands for Bowl Championship Series.

When does the committee start to reveal their "rankings"? Week 7 or so right?

it does show the bias with TCU- no reason they should be ranked in the top 4

Basically the committee is a high profile, glorified poll. The primary drivers for decisions are the two existing polls. Where a teams starts the season in the polls matters greatly and there is no way around that. I believe this to be an absolute truth because if there were no starting poll, how would you decide who played the better schedule or beat better teams? With no polls, the committee would have to sift through all of the undefeated teams first and rank them some how which means anybody could be number one. And we all know that there is no way on November 8th that the committee will rank undefeated non power schools over the power 5. So there has to be a reference or start and the initial poll is that point. I recall last year when other factors such as technique were introduced into the reasoning during the committee explanations last year and they almost lost all credibility with me. For example, one week, the chairman and others were attempting to explain how committee member viewed the technique of offensive linemen and how the lineman attacked off the ball as a "metric" in determining who was better and I thought that was pure comedy. So the committee could only go back to the same basics that everyone else falls back on and that begins and ends with the poll voters; such is the pain and beauty of the college football system of merit. The BCS computers presented an objective point of view from the metrics and of the on-field results. Although, some computer polls weighted some metrics more heavily than others, without this relatively unbiased element, the playoff committee is not an improvement or advancement of the FBS national championship selection process. The committee is just a high profile poll designed more to create the optimal outcome for big time college football and not the fans.

This CANNOT be correct. All we have played this season are 24th string quarterbacks. Shirley the computers realize this
