People keep saying we had a ton of 2's and 3's in but that's just straight BS. Our run defense is brutal right now plain and simple from starters on down. The d line can't get off blocks to make tackles, linebackers are nonexistent, and secondary takes bad angles. To say different is just a lie. Other than that however I think our team is extremely good. Can we improve? Absolutely. But we better or we're gonna have to score 7 touchdowns a game and that's just not gonna happen every time. I'm not trying to be negative it's just the honest truth. And remember it was UAB not an SEC squad.

I agree with you. I saw them constantly gashed right up the middle and then pretty inept around the ends. This should not have happened with UAB, and Gurley Man looms like a spectre.

I disagree, look did UAB move the ball in the second qtr? Absolutely. Is it a little concerning? Maybe. But was anyone watching the 1st qtr? UAB had 4 possessions and had 4 yards to show for it!!! 4 sets of downs and 4 yards are you kidding me, what more do you want. We get up 28 points and the defense let's off the gas a little, that is going to happen. Anyone who has played football understands this, when you know you are going to pound a team your intensity let's up some. Not saying this is a good thing, but it is human nature it happens.

I truly believe it mostly has to do with the poor LB play especially MLB. Come on can anyone really understand now how important the Mike position is? Now that we don't have Minter racking up 12 tackles a game and going sideline to sideline. Especially with Chief coaching the LB's that is the disappointing thing to me the very sub-par LB play especially from the MLB - another Welter needs to go rant!!! On the positive KA looked back to form and Barrow and Louis had 7 tackles each, but you are right the LB were taking bad angles to the sidelines and I don't think the MIke position even played in the game, at least it looked that way!!!

Maybe it just is what it is.

I still think that the causes for the 2Q defensive showing was multifactorial, but what if it is just a lower caliber of D than we've been accustomed to seeing? So what?

We lost a lot of starters so this would be expected. This team still has the goods to make a NC run, so just enjoy the ride. It's quite possible that there is absolutely nothing that can be done about the D anyway so what good is worrying about it?

The thing I from the 2nd quarter letdown was that Chief and the staff corrected it at the half. So the young guys are quite coachable, the staff has a better idea of what to work on/adjust going forward. I think we got exactly what you should want out of rent a wins (teachable moments and real game experience) for our young defense. They'll gel before GA and be better than you expect!

Miles basically put Corey Thompson on front street for second quarter defense. "Improper alignments." Whatever you say les

They learned from TCU, RB's can get the corner on us.

Poor containment combined with undisciplined pursuit gave the RB his choice of corner or cut back (some of the time).

TCU just did it with read-option.

If LSU hadn't adjusted well, I'd be worried. But having adjusted fairly well, and some 2's and 3's in there, it's not a huge concern. Took them a little long however.

Multiple times last night our D-line got penetration and had the play blown up but our DBs and LBs took terrible angles. The TD run we gave up was the worst angle I've seen a college level player take in years. All he had to do was corral him in and that play gains just a few yards.

Dude it's a discussion board. I'm not worried about it in a way to not get out of bed every day. It's just a topic of discussion. It's not just the LBers. The d line is getting pushed back and they can't get off their blocks to make tackles. Also, when the secondary comes up for a tackle they take bad angles. Yes we lost starters from last year but I'm talking about this year. Is it somewhat expected? Maybe. It may just take them 4 games to get better I don't know. I personally think we're giving up too much size for speed. Anthony Johnson is a smaller tackle and so are most of our linebackers. We need a larger mike with speed like minted was. He was 240. Maybe we just don't have that player. Anyways I'm not trying to be negative as I thoroughly enjoyed watching the game last night and I think we have a chance to win it all. I just think our run defense will have to improve significantly to do so

If Landry doesn't fumble the ball this conversation does not exist.
