Maybe more than that, maybe less, but he will for certain catch zero passes at OSU this year. That's the part I don't get. Why not stay at LSU and fight for that No. 3 spot then, next year, be right in the mix for a starting role with a senior QB?

Like it or not, LSU just doesn't use their WR's to any great degree.

OSU's No. 3 WR had 45 catches last year for 766 yards and 5 TD's.

LSU's No. 1 WR (Dupree) had 43 catches for 698 and 6 TDs

Yes he could possibly be the No. 1 WR at LSU next season. However, it's not unrealistic that even at the No. 1 guy, his production could still be lower than the 3rd WR at OSU. Maybe he sits out a year and becomes the top target at OSU in 2017.

Diarse and Quinn left because it was clear they were behind Dupree and Dural in the pecking order this season, and being in that position almost assured them that their production wasn't going to be very high. LSU just doesn't spread the ball around in the passing game. It's not their offense.

I'm sure Johnson, like every other player, wants to put up numbers on the field. Evidently he felt leaving LSU for another school presented him with the best chance to do so.

LSU's use of their WR can be look at from two perspectives:

1. They get guys ready for the NFL regardless of college production -- James Wright had zero catches his Sr. year, yet he is an NFL WR with Cincinnati.... or

2. LSU had an NFL WR on their roster, James Wright, yet the wasted his talent by never throwing him the ball.

If you are a WR who wants to play in a wide open passing offense, LSU isn't the place for you.

And, both of those are actually true leading to #3.

James Wright almost certainly lost a shite ton of money because he played at LSU.

Had he been able to actually SHOW his ability in college, he likely doesn't enter as 7th round pick.

Think about that. The dude was good enough to be drafted on basically NOTHING.

And every kid knows this BEFORE they commit to LSU, as long as Les Miles is the coach. Why change your mind now? Why break your commitment to a team? I don't wish ill on the kid, but Im certainly not going to wish him good luck when he can directly affect LSU's potential playoff hopes in the future.

I'm not being miserable.

Seems to me the people upset he's leaving are being miserable.

Let the damned young man make a decision that makes perfect sense for someone in his shoes without acting like he's done something dumb.

Well, because while it is fair to point out that LSU doesn't exactly spread the ball around, it's also fair to say that recently, the top dogs at receiver for LSU have been sought after by the NFL.

So, maybe you think you'll be a top dog or at least that you have a shot.

Well, given that it is well established that in college football, this "commitment" only really goes in one direction, I'm not gonna throw darts at someone like this kid.

Meh. That's such a marginal reality as to barely warrant consideration.

Wish Tyron would have stayed, but dude will be a huge success in a pass happy system like Oklahoma State if he puts in the work. Wish him the best. Has all the talent in the world, and he seems like a good person.

there is a ton of talent at receiver on this team. when you see younger guys maybe passing you up, I would prolly do the same thing being that he was still young. I don't understand Diarce but I can Quinn and Johnson

I would expect him to be better motivated on an offense that can actually throw.

Then, every once in a while, you have someone like Paul Turner, who is on the verge of making it with the Eagles now.

Or James wright, russell Shepard, Kadron Boone.

Most of the time it isn't about the team, it's on the player.

I remember everyone bitching that miles and Jefferson were the reason Randle didn't go in the first round. I thought he was ok at LSU and wasn't even the best wr on that 2011 team. Pretty much everything after that season proved that and extended into the NFL.

There are lots of WRs with great athleticism. Johnson clearly is one. A small number of these athletic freaks make it to the NFL despite their work ethic and most of them have something elite (height, speed, etc.) that Johnson does not. I doubt that Johnson will be drafted unless he gets his act together.

Think about it, every NFL team that may consider Johnson is going to ask the LSU coaches why Johnson left. Every NFL team is going to be skeptical of him.

Oh, but he'll get "production" at OSU. Lots of Oklahoma State WRs put up numbers (although the numbers looking back are not that impressive to be honest). How many have been drafted in the past four years? ZERO

ZERO.

Only one is currently on an NFL squad, an undrafted rookie currently trying to make the Falcons.

All that production over four years led to one scrappy WR currently in the league and likely to be cut in the next two weeks.

Sure, there's Dez and there's Blackmon. But those guys were physical freaks. They didn't make the NFL because of their "production." They made it because they had all of the intangibles. Johnson is a good athlete but he's average height (6-1), average weight (190), Slightly above average speed (4.55 in a "recruiting" time). And, he has a lousy work ethic and attitude.

Jarvis Landry had all of these measurables and only mustered a 4.65 forty. But the dude had heart. He had work ethic. He was coachable. And LSU turned him into a complete, pro style WR. He was drafted late second round.

Tyron Johnson may have success at Oklahoma State. That's great. Stats are wonderful. But OSU is a school that can win its conference (as shitty as it is) once every 20 years. He'll play for nothing. And unless he matures and realizes that he needs to work for his goals, he'll be out of football after 2018.

Dude TigerAlum is closely related to Quinn. Which means he probably also knows exactly what's going on with Diarse because he's a friend of Trey. He knows more about the situations of each than everyone else here combined.

I believe him when he says it's not about being afraid of falling down the depth chart to younger guys. Both guys have a shot of being drafted. That chance goes up if they are at a program that showcases their abilities as primary receivers. Diarse graduated, so he fulfilled every bit of his commitment to the school. Both of them spent two years on the field being the primary blocking receivers for a pro style offense. That's experience that will help them in their pursuit of making the league. I wish both guys the best of luck, except when they play Baylor (I married a graduate).
