Fox Sports

The thought of this makes me a little nauseous.

I certainly hope it doesn't happen, but if LSU wins on 11/5 and Bama doesn't lose another game, then I think it will.

If this type scenario killed the BCS in 2012 (Mandel's claim), does it push the playoff to 8 teams? Just a matter of time, IMO.

Loses to Fla. bama, OM/Ark will prevent us from being in playoffs. They will not take a 2 or 3 loss team.
Corn Flake Bowl here we come.

Let's just hope that situation comes up for discussion, and then the committee says, "Oops, but the gumps didnt win their division, much less an SEC CG."

I agree about losing to florida and bama. I think those are our two losses.

It's a hypothetical. I didn't ask for a W/L prediction.

If LSU would end up playing BAMA twice again in one season after beating them in November and didn't get it done the second time for the NC, murders would likely take place. Not quite sure the LSU fan base could take that kind of karma...

My head tells me this is logical, but my heart and 46 years of being alive and watching the way BAMA is treated tells me we end up on the outside looking in and don't get a do over in the playoffs as the SECW runners-up.

Let's just hope we get it done in November and never have to find out...

You can bet your arse if LSU loses to Bama in OT on a fg in a low scoring game, no way in hell LSU makes the playoffs. Saban is god to the media and ESPN allowed him to get on their show the day of the SEC Championship game and politic for his team to get a rematch. Les won't be afforded the same. So someone else will get the spot and LSU will get screwed.

Hopefully we beat Bama and a few more teams do and they won't be able to claim their zillionith natty.

Depends on the SOS here in my opinion, as well as the records of the other teams vying for that spot. If LSU is undefeated, and Bama is one of three one loss teams, then yes they'll be in the playoffs.

If they're one of 4-5 one loss teams, then the strength of USC, Ole Miss, Aggy, Tennessee comes into play relative to the schedule strength of the other teams vying for that spot. In a scenario like 2011, both teams are making a 4 team playoff.

Well that's just your victim mentality. If they're one of 3 one loss teams, with their only loss coming in a close game to the (presumably) #1 team in the country, then they'll absolutely be there

I guess I don't see it happening for a different reason.

OSU would be Bama in the scenario he laid out I guess. OSU lost to MSU late in the season, and got passed by a 2 loss conference champ. OSU was much more of a favorite to get to the playoffs in 2015 than Bama is in 2016.

Really?? Pretty negative during a time where fans should have plenty of optimism. Especially with all the returning talent from a 10 win team or what should've been a 10 win team and a bowl win. It must suck to be around u

I think this depends on what else is out there. LSU won't get the same respect that Bama would. If the first three slots are solid and there's something like a Houston/Boise State team out there with no losses or one loss, I could see the playoff selection going for them.

Who? No one was a conference champ at that point, and no one that ended with two losses in the regular season jumped OSU, and 1-4 are all that really matter if you're referring to Stanford jumping OSU in the last week for the #6 ranking

It should.

That said, as long as there are conf. championship games, it should be extremely rare for a team that didn't win it's conference, let alone division, to make the playoffs. The reason is that division winners have to put their record on the line one more time than non-division winners.

Would LSU have still made the championship game in 2011 had they lost the SECCG? I doubt it.

Is it that unrealistic to envision a scenario where FSU goes 12-0, Ohio State goes 11-1, Oregon goes 11-1 and Bama goes 11-1 (only loss to LSU). FSU, OSU, Ore and LSU are all div. champs and have to play one more game. Bama sits at home What if FSU and LSU lose in their conf. championship games, or OSU and FSU? Does Bama jump them? In that scenario, the only reason Bama would have the same or better record than those teams is because those teams had to play one more game.

If you want to try to avoid this situation either get rid of conf. championship games or expand the playoffs.
