That's true. If he gets shelled early Friday, Merrill will probably never see LSU.

The AAC was like the #3 RPI conference in the country.

As for Duester, he's done some starting on the weekend but lately he's been in a setup man/closer role.

It would be smarter to not throw their ace against Lange and pitch him either tomorrow or on the losers side.

let's say LSU and Tulane win tomorrow

then Tulane doesn't throw their ace against Lange and LSU wins. they HAVE to throw their ace against Wilmington or Lehigh

so Tulane has to beat Poche and Bain without their ace or presumably their #2 or #3 pitchers

ahhh the advantages of getting the easiest 4 seed in the tournament... when was the last time LSU lost game 1 in the regional? hasn't happened in at least 20 years

check that. 1985. Houston in the Austin regional. so not in my lifetime and i'm 29

Yeah that's the issue for Tulane. If they don't win tomorrow night, they have a decision to make, and even if they threw off in the loser's bracket game, it would put Merrill back against UNCW on Sunday afternoon.

Tulane will be 2 and done
Only way this happens is if LSU loses game 1.

I'll bet UNCW shells this dude and Tulane regrets the decision. He may have looked good earlier against them but UNCW has some decent offense.

Wave pitching may be decent but LSU has faced great pitchers.toolame hitting is really weak. The slime goes 1&2 and thru, and slinks back to NO.Not to heard from for another season..

Also, Duester got the win against UNCW back in March, so it's partially a matchup thing.

This also means they've got film on him and a pretty good idea of how he's going to approach their hitters. Could cut either way.

Define "Really good pitching". Team ERA is decent. Any pro prospects?

Really good may be overstating it. I'd say top 30 in team ERA with 9 shutouts(only USM and Vandy have more) is solid though. Ian Gibaut is probably the best pro prospect.

I think it's the right move.
If we lose to UNCW, throw Gibbs against Lehigh and we have still have our top 2 for UNCW/LSU, who won't have their top 2.
If we throw Merrill against UNCW,it increases the chances of winning, but that means Massey goes against LSU with a pitcher you guys say is unbeatable, which leaves us with Duester/Gibbs for UNCW/LSU.

It's right.
They may have 2/3 but they won't have 1/2.

Tulane is not beating LSU no matter who each team pitches.

I'm pretty sure LSU lost game 1 in the 1993 BR regional. Kent State? Then came back and beat Baylor and a couple others to win the Regional. I was there.

No Toolame starting pitcher will last 5 innings against LSU.
