Patrick Duester got the win over the Seahawks in their midweek matchup this year. Same guy LSU beat twice.

ballsy. I know he had pretty decent numbers but that guy seemed very average against lsu.

Although if Tulane is playing to win the regional i dont blame them. Probably need to do something like that and hope the gamble pays off.

UNCW has a good offense, they will lose this game I think.

note: this guy is their second best ERA among guys who have started 5+ games.

We will likely see COREY MERRILL, if they win.

Yep, got to have something improbable go their way if they really want to win it.

When's the last time an in state team didn't pitch off in the 2/3 game? They all want to save that ace for big daddy LSU in the 1-0 game. Funny thing is they don't seem to ever win the 2/3 game by doing this.

UNO in 08
ULL in 13

UNO tried that out a few years back. They ended up playing Southern Miss twice instead.

I dont care who they throw, they arent beating us with Lange on the bump.

It would be smarter to not throw their ace against Lange and pitch him either tomorrow or on the losers side.

I'd love to see Merrill vs. Poche. Both Lutcher guys who grew up next door to each other. Would be awesome. But it won't happen.

Duester is not their "midweek" guy. He started the season in that slot, but has been weekend the last 5-6 weeks in a row, including their conference tournament opener last week. He is their 2nd best starter. Also, Duester got the win against UNCW back in March, so it's partially a matchup thing. So as their 2nd best starter, it gives them the best chance to have Merrill waitingfor LSU since we have already beaten up on Duester to the tune of 7 runs in 8.1 innings this year.

Isn't that better than weekend competition for Tulane?

Tulane has been using a weekend rotation of Merrill, Massey and Gibbs for awhile. Duester is the midweek guy. And no Duester is not their 2nd best starter.

Sorry, Astro. You're wrong. Duester has started exactly one conference game, and he didn't make it out of the third inning against Houston. Massey is their clear cut second starter while Gibbs has been their Sunday guy.

They have used Duester as their 2nd bullpen guy. Almost in a Louis Coleman role because their bullpen has no depth. So they are getting a start out of him and then getting some bullpen use out of him on weekend. Other than him, Gibaut is all they have had out of the pen, so that's why he has been used that way.
