I've made it home to New Orleans in roughly 1hr 25mins for each game. I always park in the same yard by Highland/E. Boyd. Contraflow shoots me right to College and then the interstate. I think it works well. You just have to plan your parking.

There are a few ancillary reasons why people leave early. They have all been mentioned hear. But the one main reason IS the traffic, and here's why. When we had a 68,000 seat stadium, (before all of the upper decks), traffic was very manageable. When we added the west upper deck, that added 7,500 people. At 2 people per car, that another 3,750 cars. Repeat for east upper deck. Then we added the south upper. I'm not sure what the capacity is there, but it brings the total to roughly 101,000 fans. Subtract the 68,000 original total and you have 33,000 more fans. Thats 16,500 more vehicles crowding on to the same roadways we have always had. You can't put 10 pounds of crap in to a 5 pound bag and not have problems

Don't bring reason and logic in to this!

You came up with an average of 2 people per car???
You realize people walk, ride bikes, pile into campers, tour buses, vans, limos and pile 6-8 deep in large SUV's?

Go look at a campus photo when the stadium held 68K and you'll see fewer buildings and more campus parking. A game photo would show little tailgating with associated trailers and hangers on.
Burbank is the only new road. But since then major developments South of LSU have added to the congestion.
Improving Nicholson to Bluebonnet, Dalrymple and some minor tweaks around the bridge could help, but really little has been done.

They are not going to spend millions of dollars to help traffic for 6-7 days per year.
Traffic is just going to be part of the gameday experience.

I usually end up driving down highland and I don't understand why they don't let people turn off of highland onto Acadian or college. I think Essen is the first available turn and it just seems silly to me to try and force 100k vehicles down these narrow roads like highland and Burbank and Nicholson.

BIG CAT, last night, we drove to and from the stadium in record time. It only took 15 minutes to get to the parking lot and 20 minutes to get off of campus. You have no idea what you're talking about.
Anyone who tries to take left turns after the game are the #1 cause of significant traffic after every week. You could just as easily follow contra-flow and double back to get where you need to go without causing a 30 minute delay to the 20,000 cars behind you and it would only be a 10 minute delay for you (whereas it would be a 30 minute delay for you if you had to wait for the like-minded morons in front of you to wait to take a left turn, too). Learn how to drive. You should have your license suspended.

If you know you can't make a left, why park there? I know where I need to go after a game so I park on the right side of campus to get out quicker. Make sense?
Of course it makes sense. But if people actually did this then what excuse would they have to bitch or to leave early....?
Gotta think about these things.

I'm not saying they are going to build new roads, I'm just saying what the problem is. And even it's just 10,000 more cars, it's still the main problem.

After 15 years of going yo lsu games, I finally unlocked the secret to beating the traffic and it isn't leaving early. I was in my car at 10pm and home in hammond by 1045.

Just hang out a bit after the game. Not worth jumping in that traffic.

FACT.
You do not save yourself any time by hanging out. You may spend less time in traffic, but you aren't getting home sooner.
I rather be in traffic relaxing with the post game radio show on and getting home ASAP

Nothing wrong w counter flow. In fact they need more of it. Example is river road going north. The left lane is sent to downtown br but no counter flow on st Phillip or downtown. The whole thing just backs up.

what nemrod came up with this great idea

.I park by the track, live by u club but can not go left I have to go all the way around on the interstate to get home instead of 15 min.
It didn't take me long to figure out that I need to park where I can get out in the direction I want to go...
Do you realize how long it would take to empty out the parking lots without contraflow?
