Agreed! When the thread reads "all time" you have to consider longevity. All the guys on MMM's list played their senior years. I realize Hill, Ridley, Fournette, etc. are great running backs but they lose their "all-time" status when they jump ship - assuming Fournette bolts after his junior year. That's just the way it is..... Fair or not. That's my rationale and I'm sticking to it.

As good as Cannon was in his day.. do you really think he would hold a candle to the training and physicality to the RBs of recent years?
Since this is a hypothetical, can we make all things equal? What would Billy Cannon look like with modern training techniques? He ran a sub 10 second 100 meter dash, and was also heralded for his shot put ability.
As others have said, you have to look at what they did versus the athletes of their time.
It becomes difficult to rank all-time greats as the stats become difficult to compare. Length of season, overall team quality, offensive styles, the number of years at LSU, and other players all factor in. Some guys are able to step in as Freshman, like Fournette, and be the guy because of depth. Other guys, like Ridley, had to sit behind a stacked group before getting a shot. This can greatly affect career stats. Comparing season averages helps, but it doesn't really tell the full story. National awards and recognition is also nice, but lack thereof doesn't necessarily mean everything.

I promise you Dalton Hilliard was better than Jeremy Hill. Hilliard was, beyond a doubt, the best back LSU has ever had until he was 10 yards downfield. If he had speed he'd have been Barry Sanders, but he just didn't. His height hurt him in the passing game, too.
