Cannon, Faulk, Alexander, Dalton, Hill

However, this list is likely to change over the next few years with guys like Fournette, Guice, Moses, and possibly Devin White on deck. At least two of those guys will crack the top 5.

1. Jeremy Hill
2. Cecil the Diesel
3. Kevin Faulk
4. Stevan Ridley
5. Buga (and working his way up the list)

I left off Cannon only because he was before my time and I've seen very little footage of him.

As good as Cannon was in his day.. do you really think he would hold a candle to the training and physicality to the RBs of recent years?

How's this for a start: SEC Champion- 9.4 100yd & shot put.

I've seen them all live but Van Buren and Fournette. Hands down he was most impressive physical runner with speed to burn watching live action.
Hard to compare real life eye level with TV.

PS: Sorry to see no one has added Johnny Robinson, Cannons halfback running mate.

No Jim Taylor? I know he's listed as a FB but he was an all-american, and is in the NFL HOF.

I can't speak on Cannon, Alexander & Hillard because I never saw them play week to week.
Dalton Hilliard is an example of someone who'd actually be more dominant now.
He was 5'9, prob played around 185 in college. He didn't have blazing speed. He lacked a lot of natural physical gifts the other guys have on this list. Basically the physical opposite of Fournette.

However, he had more cuts, moves and jukes than any other back I've ever seen, and that includes Barry Sanders. Just an average off tackle run from him would have a skip, a shoulder bob and a spin, and the beautiful thing was that he'd never seem to slow down while doing it. And he'd do it over and over.

Based on info on the LSU site there are three names that jump out at you so I'd rank them as such

1. Kevin Faulk
2. Dalton Hilliard
3. Charles Alexander

After that it gets a little muddier. Because of the number of games and style of the game, guys like Cannon, Van Buren, and Taylor are at a disadvantage as are players now who leave early, in terms of carrier totals in particular. A case could be made for Terry Robiskie, Harvey Williams, Gary James, and Rondell Mealy. The last two particularly because they shared the backfield with Hilliard and Faulk respectively.

Since I have to pick, we'll sort of, I'll go with one nod the the older generation and one to sharing the backfield with the GOAT (At least for now). My complete list.

1. Kevin Faulk
2. Dalton Hilliard
3. Charles Alexander
4. Billy Cannon
5. Rondell Mealy
