Toms nailed about a 15-20 ft putt to force the playoff on 17 and choi was unrelenting in his pursuit on the back 9. But that's gotta be tough for toms because he really had it. Still great finish but I'd rather the cadillac than the steak knives any day. Great showing Toms!

poorly executed shot. I sure wouldn't want to have missed that putt in front of my 13 year old kid though. He may never hear the end of "Dad that was a 3 foot putt, I could have made that!!!!!" Tiger nation should be proud of him. Geaux Toms.

the first part of the sentence which should have read that he played well except for one poorly executed shot

When you accomplish what Toms has, you will be something other than a critical, pitiful loser. You havent and you aren't.

Well, you just gave the definitiion of choke with your post. He played well and chocked at the end.

It's not a huge knock agianst the guy, he played great against the best, but he gagged at teh end. Say what you want but you know it damn well.

We are casual friends and it is what it is.

And NO, I never missed one.......but I never had one to win the Players! I am no good at all in golf....except at W O L F.

That same putter got him in the playoff just 10 minutes before that.

I am a huge fan a David Toms and would never ever want to be over that putt he had with that pressure. Having said that, if it had been Mickelson that missed that putt, the word "choke" would be used many times on this board.

I love all the idiots who suck at golf calling Toms a choker. He made all putts inside 5 feet but one, led in driving accurary, and greens in regulation. It's hardly a choke when you take into account he had to birdie 18 to get to a playoff, which only 3 players total had birdied before his group teed off. He should have taken more time on the putt he missed. He lost his routine, admitted to thinking about the next tee shot. He didn't choke. He lost focus. And, if you actually play golf, and are good, you can relate to this. On the other hand, if you are just a hacker, like most of you bagging on him, you cant; so STFU!

I don't think many of you understand what "choke" means in golf...

Greg Norman 1996 Masters
Dustin Johnson 2010 US Open
Jean Van De Velde 1999 British

You don't Choke when 10 minutes before that you needed a 3 on the hardest hole on the course and you make it by hitting a perfect shot out of a divot then draining an 18 footer.

Losing focus at the time when the pressure is highest is exactly what choking is...get over it.

Great guy, great golfer, couldn't hit the put when he needed it.

Ok, he's a losefocuser...feel better. geeez

You're right, he lost his routine, he didn't do what he usually does and is supposed to do. THe pressure got him and it happens ot ALL athletes a few times in their lives.

Choke = 3 shot lead going into the final round and shooting 79. McDowell even admitted that he was flustered.
quote:

"It was disappointing out there today," said McDowell, who tied for 33rd at 5-under 283. "Probably my first time under the gun in a little while."

If he won, he would have made $1.7 million. Shot +7, made $50,192

Really enjoyed watching Toms play so well all weekend. Had it been just a normal 18 hole day, I believe he would have won the tournament. However, I think he was physically drained by the time he hit the tee shot on #17 in regulation (while Choi was just enjoying himself and high-fiving fans on the walk to the green). After Toms made the awesome birdie on #18, his excitement finally drained him emotionally.

You could see the look on his face riding from the scoring tent to the first playoff hole: he was physically and emotionally drained and that is what caused him to lose focus. However, having said all that, Choi had just as long a day as Toms did but he was able to overcome his short missed putts in regulation while Toms did not get the chance in sudden death.

Hopefully this was just a sign of better things to come for him in the near future.
