Houston beating Oklahoma puts them in the drivers seat for a playoff spot, they literally don't play anyone the rest of the season

Houston is a finalist for the Big 12 and this is important to the University community

Houston has a billionaire booster that is a huge sports fan in Tillman Fertitta. He just donated $20mm to renovate the UH basketball arena LINK

Herman and football success are key to UH getting in to the Big 12. Fertitta alone can pay Herman to stay if it comes down to it. Herman is from Texas and already at a Texas school with a ton of talent a car ride away. If Herman were to leave UH it would be to one of the big Texas schools

Herman's wife is also becoming prominent in the Houston social scene and being young, wealthy and highly regarded in Houston is pretty nice

Forget about Tom Herman

and I think he goes to Texas if anywhere. for some amount we wouldn't match.

If the best case scenario is UH joining the Big 12, they are still jumping on board a sinking ship.

You laid out several good reasons why he won't be coming here, but you left out the most important one:

Les Miles isn't going anywhere.

Agree. We couldn't even buy miles out last year let alone miles, Hermans UH contract and then pay Herman

They do play Louisville in late November
Here in Houston

That is it, the playoffs are right there for them if they run the table

TAF raised the money to buy out Les and Cam. Now Les's buyout is 3 mil less and Cam doesn't even have one. Raising money isn't an issue. It's the trio of frickboys in charge letting us use it.

I just don't see Oklahoma and UT letting them in. If Houston gets in , those 2 programs will fall off

That's my point. What will have changed? Budget and government concerns will trump this

Whether they get in is irrelevant

The Big 12 is part of the UH President's fundraising narrative and she is invested in keeping it going

The point is Herman has tremendous leverage and the school has a billionaire in its pocket to get things done.

If we're bad enough, people will stop going to games, the university will lose money. If we continue to play like this, people will stop going. They'll fire Miles then. We lose again before November and I hope the stadium is a ghost town against Bama.

LSU could fire Miles today and still not be a destination for Herman. He doesn't have to do anything and if he does do something it will be a vertical move in Texas. The state of leadership at LSU and the funding issues are too big a question mark for a guy like Herman who has huge leverage where he is to consider the LSU job

If they don't get into the Big 12, their path to the playoffs will always be extremely difficult. Even if they go undefeated I can't see them getting in over a one loss SEC or Big Ten team. They'll have a nearly unbreakable glass ceiling. The playoff is setup to show favor to P5 teams. As long as theyre G5 they're screwed.
