Thanks for posting, Mrs. Finley. Your son is very talented and we're happy to have him, but don't be surprised to see him get a redshirt this year.

Nothing wrong with that. Seems to have worked well for Myles Brennan.

No one would disagree with this, but it doesn’t mean he is our backup at this point. Everyone always knew he has a ton of potential, it’s just a matter of developing him. He’s a project. If Myles were to go down this year, I think Max Johnson is likely the guy. While his ceiling isn’t as high as TJ’s, I think he will probably end up being the better option this year.

his upside is bigger than Johnson.
why? Because he's more "athletic?"

I only saw a short clip of him throwing on air with no rush. Am I missing something?

Weird, all the things I've read/heard say he's wildly inaccurate and that Max Johnson looks a lot better than him.

Things out of practice or recruiting stuff? Because the video I saw of him out of practice, he was anything but wildly inaccurate

He has a lot working against him. There have been way more successful QBs under 6'0, than those over 6'6. Plus he is only 18, so he might grow even more. He's just not going to work out at 6'8 or 6'9. I'd think basketball, cause he played in HS. But if he really has such a cannon, how about baseball? He could still play football, be a back-up. But I'd be looking at other sports if I'm him..

The clips that have come out of practice showing the QB’s going thru drills doesn’t really backup your comments. In fact it is not hard to see he is having some accuracy issues

Both.

Did you not see the video of him missing the entire net from not very far away? I've only seen I think 2 videos of the QBs throwing and he looked shaky at best in terms of accuracy.

ETA:

But yes, that was his knock in high school as well. Very streaky with accuracy.

It’s hard to hold his high school accuracy against him when you look at his teammates. Maybe it was just a highlight video, but Doucet put up a video of Finley throwing to receivers and his balls were on the money.

aaaaand you lost me.

i am no poo pooing TJ. He is simply slower, and less accurate when compared to Max in the ONE video we have all seen. as always, time will tell and I will cheer on any/all of them.

My post was based on OPINIONS of 2 guys that I know who have been at all of the practices. Only opinions. Some of you have written TJ off, but what I hear is that his skills and ability are showing. If Max is better then it is Max. Mostly, we don’t need to have a freshman running the team this year, but one of our two are going to get some playing time this year because we need insurance behind Myles.

But that's not what you said in the OP. You said he has looked good and #2.

I wish the kid the best of luck, but I have seen him play in 3 HS games against my son's team and I do not see D1 skill set.

He does have a cannon; but if he gets in a jam, his accuracy suffers greatly. And he is not very mobile. I like the kid, but I just don't see his potential in LSU's offense.

Like Russell he has a cannon for an arm which he isover reliant on to get himself out of trouble. He has great velocity on his passses especially on the intermediate. But he does have accuracy problems and his scrambling ability is nowhere as good a Burrow or even some of his competition in H.S.

I saw him play 2X last year against Mandeville and Fontainebleau. When he had time he could make big plays, but once he had to scramble or is forced to rolll up his accuracy suffers. He is a big guy so he has to throw down a lot on short routes and intermediate/ out routes. He is not a touch passer.

Tierney did not teach him a lot of decision making. He lined up and told TJ to just go.
