i remember him taking a timeout against auburn in 07 with about 40 seconds left before half. lsu ran a play on 3rd down & didn't pick up the 1st. so he called time out & gave auburn the ball with plenty time left, good thing they didn't take advantage. can anybody explain this timeout?

LSU at 1:40 AUB LSU
1st and 10 at LSU 35 Richard Murphy rush for 17 yards to the Aub 48 for a 1ST down. 17 7
1st and 10 at AUB 48 Matt Flynn pass complete to Terrance Toliver for 6 yards to the Aub 42.
2nd and 4 at AUB 42 Timeout Lsu, clock 00:54.
2nd and 4 at AUB 42 Matt Flynn pass incomplete to Terrance Toliver.

3rd and 4 at AUB 42 Matt Flynn sacked by Quentin Groves at the Aub 49 for a loss of 7 yards.
4th and 11 at AUB 49 Timeout Lsu, clock 00:36.

4th and 11 at AUB 49 Patrick Fisher punt for 49 yards for a touchback.

DRIVE TOTALS: LSU drive: 4 plays 16 yards, 01:12 LSU PUNT

You're seriously asking about a specific time out called 5 fricking years ago?

Why would you go that far back for an example of clock mismanagement? LOL

How about last week at Auburn? We call timeout on third down at end of game, so that we can run the ball to the middle of the field to set up a rushed FG attempt, snapped at the last seconds of the play clock.

The list you're working on here is far too extensive to be given its proper due. Now, if you want to break it down by quarter or opponent, we may be able to keep the discussion contained within several pages.

yes, because this continues to happen. no matter the players, assistant coaches. does he know what is going on or know the situation with the down & how much time is left? i guess not.

Let me clarify for you, MCSquared16. I meant with 1:30 left in the game. LC

You should call the les miles show and complain about taking a knee at the end of the game. I think we're the only football team AT ANY LEVEL that does this.

After the way we played for most of the game, we should have been trying to prove ourselves.

Sounds like you're happy with mediocrity.

He called the timeout with hopes of stopping them on 3rd down and making them punt to possibly get a block or a return before half. They got the first down so it didn't matter. Les has had many clock management gaffes but this was not one imo.

They were going to run out the clock regardless. They didn't get a first down, and didn't need to.

For Miles to call a TO in that situation trying to force a punt, Towson would have had to attempt a pass deep in their own territory. The only way this could happen, is if he were matching wits with someone his equal in all things clock management on the other side of the field.

yes this was one because it was our last time out so all they had to do was snap it and take a knee if they wanted. It was normal les miles

There is so much stupid in the OP and in this thread its baffling.

First of all, it was 3rd down. Second, I've seen that timeout called literally hundreds of times. It forces them to either run the ball or risk an incomplete pass and punt....giving LSU a chance to return one.

The lack of football IQ on this board is amazing.

Exactly what I said. This time out was justified in this situation. It was obviously a long shot to get any points out of it but not a lapse in judgement by miles.

Yes, this is true. His first game. A good starting point. What a harbinger of things to come!

Chronicling these events would require a staff larger than the one Miles can't seem to use to help him in these endeavours. This same hard-headedness shows in his handling of the offense.

No one would dare claim Miles makes defensive calls, therefore he must feel compelled to leave his mark somewhere on the team. This is the offense's burden to bear. I think Miles' pride keeps him from giving the offensive reins over to anyone, as he does on defense. Maybe trying too hard to justify his salary, IDK?

I really like Miles as a coach and a person, prior to kickoff, and after the final tick of the game clock. He's had some influence in the outcomes of games that has been positive on fourth downs and special teams, but even many of these are very questionable and controversial.

But, he does bring home the groceries. And, that is important.

so? did they change the rules where unused timeouts now carry over to the 2nd half?

No problem w/ calling the timeout. Why did he let ten seconds or so run off the clock before calling it however?

When your argument or defense is reduced to this statement, it's time to step back and re-assess your situation.
