So far they look so much better than later years group.. Our "big 3" of Chark - Gage- Dillon > than Dural Dupree Chark it seems. At least so far. Add Davis & Sullivan having a year in the program and what seemed to be a ? Mark now looks like a strength. Maybe the Joseph hire is working out. Now that Dee is back so they consider jacoby goin back to S?? I'm torn on if he should stay at WR. He is so talented on either side

Personally I think our 3 receiver set should be chark Dillon Davis most of the time, and also use gage and Sullivan a good bit. Davis has the speed and size to make a huge impact in the game, and we saw that happen in his lone pass last Saturday. Also can't wait to see Sullivan being used in more down field passes and end zone fades. We have an exciting receiving core for this year and the future!

This is a better group as far as freakish ability, talent, and size..
We are getting Dee Anderson back as well
I am not talking about the big three though that he list.. the overall collection of receivers

Davis and Sullivan look like NFL grown men out there. Gage and Dillon must have more reliable hands to be starting in front of them. I'm fine with that because nothing is more maddening than watching first down darts bounce off the hands of wide receivers. Especially third down drive killers.

agree
dropped passes are not a subject this year

What I've seen so far is that these are rangy receivers who will go up and fight for a ball.
With all the stars in the Dupre-Dural-Diarse-Quinn group, we didn't see much of that. It was like they were all Ming vases or something.

Wasn't that the 3 receivers who started the Chat game?

LSU has always had good WRs. We just have a coach now that knows what a WR is for.

LSU receivers have had a drops problem for years until this year.
This group goes up in the air and fights for balls unlike dupre and others who didn't have any fight in them.

THIS^^^^ In years past, the DB's usually won the battle for those 50/50 throws b/c they fought for the ball more than our WR's. This year, our guys are actually fighting for the ball and winning those fights.

So far, our WRs are doing a good job of what they teach you in middle school... Go up and take the ball at it's highest point, use your body to shield the ball from the defender, etc.

With more reps comes confidence, once these WRs see that they can do these things on anyone, any DB, they can really take off. Love seeing the aggressive ball skills, must go up for that ball like it's yours no matter where you think it's at.
Now if Etling and these WRs can fix the timing issues, Etling throwing it as soon as he sees them coming open, that will separate this team from most in the SEC. He misses a ton of passes that are just coming open almost as soon as he releases it to another guy that seems to be more covered. They both have to work on timing, and Etling needs to do a better job of throwing them open or see a WR who is covered on one side of the field but is running to the other which will leave him wide open, you just throw it where he's going to be. You can let the ball go early if you give it enough air and put it ahead of the WR. The WR can then run under it.
I would also like to see him, near the red zone, look quickly to one side, if covered, move up into the pocket, and reset his feet to the other side, likely there will be sitting someone wide open on that backside. He needs to assume that his first reads will be covered so he's prepared in his mind to reset and throw. If it's open on the first read, then by all means, throw the ball. Would like to see him set the defense up much more then he has been.
Defense's are just following his eyes, and Canada always gives him a bailout man in the flats or on the other side. Maybe scheme the routes this way, so that he's aware as well as the WRs, especially near the redzone. Must get more creative there and I do expect Canada has much more up his sleeve.
These WRs can be some of the best in the SEC if we allow them to be and they make the most of the opertunities. Don't take no for an answer, go up and get any and every ball. Dive for the ball if you have to, take the hit if you must, run over these defenders. Sullivan could be a HUGE threat down the middle of the field, throw it right over the DB or LB and let the 6'6 235 lb guy go up and get it, break some tackles and head for the endzone. He could be a monster for LSU, a real nightmare for DBs or LBs. Same goes for Drake at 6'4" 225.
How many times have we seen GA, AL, Aub, State, Ole Miss, use these big WRs to out muscle LSUs DBs? When LSU has some of the best DBs in the country, we can take total advantage of this too. These guys are fast, Big and physical. Let's use those natural tools to make those DBs quit. Teach how to box out and go up/timing, teach them back shoulder passes, teach them how to break the initial tackle, stiff arm, spin, juke, whatever you have to do. Once they catch that ball, the DB will be rushing to get you down, teach them how to take advantage of that. GT

BayouBengal99... agree, on point IMO, and thank you. Said it well.
Let me say it another way, I see Gage as our #2 receiver overall and a huge strength rather than a TBD or liability holding someone else back. Granted he's giving up inches and 15-25 lbs. But the production is there.
One Note: I do not like Gage's rushing vision one bit. He's run into tackles when he has angle/speed to avoid them.
quote:I guess I'm higher on Gage than most here. He doesn't seem to drop anything AND his catch radius is huge. I know there's not a lot to go on, but between this year and last year I think he's at 10 rec on 14 targets for 118 yds (2017: 5 rec, 56 yds). Several of those 3rd down conversions.

Yeah Gage has good hands, but his field vision when he's carrying the ball seems to be lacking a bit.
I'd like to see Dillion get a few more opportunities on jet sweeps and such
