What about when we got Patrick peterson from Florida? How did you feel about that? Or ego from Miami? Or pocic from Illinois? Or freshman all American Sam Montgomery from south Carolina? Or mills from Texas? Jamarcus and kwon from Alabama? Spencer ware from Ohio? Minter and sheppard from Georgia? The other shepard from Houston? Ridley from mississippi?
That's those other schools' problems. I'd like to think LSU has enough cache to keep all its top in-state talent AND go poach from other places.
Obviously you can't keep them all, but it's not something to just shrug off when you have top players at their position in the country going out of state.

Alabama has won 3/4
They are the bandwagon team. It shows how good of a recruiting staff we have to not lose a hell of a lot more than those two to bama in the same timeframe.

What would you have done different to change the kids mind? Because ultimately, in the end, it's the kids decision.
So, since they "cant keep the talent," what should have been done differently?

Yeah, except it is, because it has always happened and always will happen. Louisiana churns out talent and LSU is only one school. We won't get every single top prospect every year. We just won't.
Now, I'll admit, if we start losing more guys this year along the lines of Fournette, Hootie, etc. to Bama, there is certainly cause for concern. However, losing Robinson and Collins to Bama is neither shocking nor the end of the world and is certainly something you should be able to shrug off.

I bet the OP doesn't have a problem with landing top out of state recruits.
LSU should give back, just from last year alone......Pocic, Herron, Gilmore, Lacouture
Even this year, I think LSU should stop recruiting Tony Brown, Ed Paris, Deondre Clark, Voorhies, Valentine
Kevin Tolliver from Florida in '15 as well.
LSU should be ashamed of themselves for taking those guys from out of state.

Well would you rather go play for Nick Saban and win national championships back to back, or go play for Les Miles and go for back to back losses in the Chick Fil-A bowl. No brainer for most 18 year olds with major talent.

Maybe people like that should just go away. They contribute nothing of any substance to this board.

In the past, the stock LSU response from some posters was "won't matter" and "he's overrated" to even "he sucks."
Now it seems those responses have evolved into "what can you do?" and "it happens, there is nothing the staff could do."
Kinda sad.
Those that think losing a couple top in state recruits to Bama every year does not matter are just fooling themselves, its that simple. Or, they do know better and are just fronting with false attitude.

I'll also give an intelligent, factual answer just for fun.
In the LSU recruiting classes between 2010-2013, here is a breakdown of Out of State players:
2010:
8/19 = 42% OOS
Notable names: Spencer Ware, Ego Ferguson, Kadron Boone, Travis Dickson, JC Copeland
2011:
6/21 = 28.5% OOS
Notable names: Zach Mettenberger, Stephen Rivers, Jalen Collins, James Hairston
2012:
9/25 = 36% OOS
Notable names: Kwon Alexander, Corey Thompson, Vadal Alexander, Danielle Hunter, Reid Ferguson, Avery Peterson, Fehoko Fanaika
2013:
13/25 = 52% OOS
Notable names: Ethan Pocic, Frank Herron, Greg Gilmore, Hayden Rettig, Andy Dodd, Tashawn Bower, Anthony Jennings, Christian LaCouture, Lewis Neal, Maquedius Bain, Rashard Robinson
That averages out to 39.6% of our classes over the past four years are from out of state.
The facts prove:
1) You're an idiot
2) There are no state fences in recruiting, it is a national process
3) LSU doesn't only take Louisiana players, they take the best they can get regardless of where they are from.
And on a final note, we have a good chance of signing 4 Composite 5* players this class...I bet your whiny arse won't bitch about that.

then answer the question. Because in the end, it's the kids decision.
Are you going to sit there and tell me that LSU doesn't roll out red carpets for recruits? LSU is so indifferent about kids, they don't care? They don't take the time, money, and effort to go after these kids?
Is that what you're telling us?

If his mom couldn't get him to LSU then what makes you think the recruiting staff or coaches could? Bottom line is some kinds just want to get away, some are just chasing the college ring, some look at who's the best at that time and how they can have the best chance at making the NFL.
And some get paid laundered dollas through hoochie mamas.

Not at all.
Someone else is just better at it.

not really, it's reality. Every organization in the world loses some to their biggest rivals. As far as Collins is concerned, the fact that he is starting at Bama due to injury has no relevance to LSU's defensive woes this year.

So when coaches take a new job and say the first thing they must do is lock down the talent in their particular state they are lying?
In-state talent has ZERO bearing on a programs potential for success? NONE at all?
Having a guy in your state that you want isn't weighted just a little bit?
Bottom line is, we all consider LSU as one of the top football programs in the nation. Players outside of Louisiana do as well. The ideal is to keep the players we want in state and go and poach other top players from out of state.
Of course there is. The goal is to beat Alabama and win the West and compete for championships. If Bama keeps getting the top La. talent - guys that we really want - that hinders our ability to reach our goals.
