I agree completely. I definitely don’t have the answer nor do I want to come up with one. Gonna be messy

That's right. There's not a single sports league or organization in the world without guidelines and regulations. This is what the NFL would look like without contracts. Only problem is, these kids aren't employees and can't have contracts yet. Good luck to whoever is going to fix this mess.

I'm no apologist for the NCAA or anything, but they were put in an impossible position.
When the Supreme Court decided that college athletes could make money off of their NIL, any rule they made in an attempt to govern or regulate how that money is funneled to the player is going to be the subject of a lawsuit. A lawsuit for every conceivable Infringement.
There will be a million Curt Flood and Spencer Haywoods' going forward. In the end some sort of collectively bargained deal that covers all the issues that will inevitably arise, with the authority of the Federal Government behind it is going to have to be made and agreed to.

I agree to a point but also feel 8&4 will be the place where reality meets the road. High paid players aren’t going to be team players or work as hard. Which will result in piss poor outcomes versus the money they paid for those players. Plain and simple.

This stuff has been going on for decades, except now it's out in the open and every school can do it, not just the blue bloods of each conference that are used to preferential treatment.

I’d prefer they create a DLeague for the NFL.

The problem is the NFL would have to be the one to pay for it and why would they do that when they already have a free d league called college football. They don’t care that the model is broken they are still going to get ready made stars that already have a built in fanbase.

No matter what the "rules" may be, CFB will ALWAYS cater to the blue bloods.

What you are seeing now are blue bloods mad other programs can compete. In the end, the powers that be, most likely the media, will make sure the same 4-5 teams are always on top.

if the players getting NIL deals is what ends it then I'm ok with it.

Major college football is already a NFL Development league.

Players getting legitimate NIL deals was never the concern and won’t be what ends it. NIL being used as the cover for pay for play was the concern.

How some of you still don’t understand that is astounding.

The fact that some think this is actually the problem is astounding.

NIL would be a player making money off a jersey or appearance, not pay for play.

Most schools lose money on football. Players scholarship packages are worth more than most here make in a year. Players aren't suffering.

I would say 100% of the people who support NIL as it is, have no clue what it was actually meant to be. I would bet every single one of those who love NIL and think schools are taking advantage of kids, also support wiping out student loans because they're "ruining people."

Its headed toward a minor league. As the players gain power, the next thing to get cut will be actual academics.

And parity out the window. Well even more, there never was any real parity prior to NIL, portal etc.

The NCAA should have come up with a plan to pay players prior to being forced to by law. That was the problem, they dug their heels and this is the result. No guidelines.

Yep. I don't know anyone who wouldn't have supported giving them money for appearances or jersey sales.

But the way it is being administered at some schools will kill the game off. its also not healthy to give 18 year old kids millions without any structure to help them out.

Its a lose/lose as is. Thousands of kids will lose the chance at college because of NIL.

Which is why the NCAA really should have done something to prevent this from being an all out war. With no guidelines, its been an absolute shite show.

As I said in another string, you can have an NIL system (with rules and regulations). You can also have a transfer portal system.

But, you cannot have both at the same time.

Even the NFL recognizes this with an overall salary cap, salary "slots" for rookies, and 3-5 year contracts for rookies. Imagine if top rookies could be free agents after one year. It would blow the f*ck out of every team's salary.
